This is gonna hurt....
I am selling my Ducati 916/955. I am listing it here first in hopes an enthusiast wants it, as Ive had sellers remorse with my previous Ducatis. Sold to kids who either crashed or mechanically ruined them. Never again, especially not with this one.

History: I purchased this Ducati from the original owner in Dec ’10. I had previously owned 748s, which make fine spirited commuter/Sunday bikes - however- this is something else entirely. I had always wanted an early Ducati 916 (note the original graphics), but I wasn’t in the market for a bike at the time as I was deploying to Afghanistan 1 month later and would be gone for a year. But… this was THE bike I drooled over back in 1995 and they’re a rare bird anymore. This one showed very, very well, was local and had an interesting history. So I figured ‘why not’?. Problem is the more I ride it, I realize its way too extreme and exclusive for my needs. It’s violent, temperamental bike and is going to land me either in jail or the morgue. I also owned the 748s when I lived an hour from the Blue Ridge Parkway, now I’m in central N.C., an area more suited to Harleys and stretched Hayabusas. I do not do track days and for my skill level this would be too much bike.
The good: See ‘Specs” above. It shows well and runs like no other “916” you’ve ever ridden. I also just had it NC State inspected, which it easily passed, so your registering it shouldn’t be an issue. Also, per the original owner, it was serviced (rebuilt, belts, rings, etc..) just before I bought it and after riding it I have no reason to doubt that.
The bad: I am a ‘receipts guy’ and I do not have any for this one. The previous owner was nice enough; he’s a DC area British diplomat and invested a fortune in it, but for whatever reason didn’t save any receipts. Everything I've described is per the previous owner (so if you come by, do your own due diligence and bring someone in the know should this concern you). The previous owner also laid it down at some point and swapped the frame with the #95 bike pictured (featured in Sport Rider Magazine, August 1998, page 93, and also a Gordinski 955). It doesn’t idle well (race cams). The tach needs rebuilt/replaced, but I do have it. Some of the idiot lights don’t work. And I recommend an oil/filters and plugs be changed as what’s in it has been in there for over a year (stumbles a bit after a few minutes, restart it and its fine. Remnants of dated gas?). It’s not ‘perfect’, but it’s clean, brutally fast and my reserve is relatively inexpensive.
And yes, I am intentionally making it sound worse than it is, as I am not hurting to sell it. It’ll go to an enthusiast or stay in my garage. It’s not like its decreasing in value.
What it’s built to do, it does very well. It’s not a sedate commuter, which is what I need.
Everything pictured is included, to include the battery tender and stands. I also have a service manual and two big boxes of spare parts. I have no idea what all is there (spare parts), but it’s included. The aforementioned magazines Ill throw in as well.
Inspections prior to purchase are encouraged; bring your mechanic if you like. I am in Raeford, N.C., just south of Ft Bragg and about an hour south of Raleigh.
