WTB: Salvage bike (prefer 848/1098/1198 but consider others)

As the title says, I'm looking for a cheap salvage bike. If it's an 848/1x98 I'll use it for parts, otherwise I'm open to different models or brands as long as they're rideable, so I can make it into a track bike. Let me know what you have.

salvagedirect.com

i have seen some pretty cheap bikes run through there. i bought a 1 month membership when i was looking. never bought anything since i found something locally. if you are lucky you can find a salvaged bike with just scratches.

I tried Salvagedirect and I think it's is BS. To me anyway, it seemed like the auctioneer was directing you towards the price they were trying to get or makeup for. I've seen a few bike on there sold and relisted numerous times. E.g.- there is a 748 that IMO could not be worth more than $1k tops! I see the auction end with bidders putting down $500-800. Yet the bike is relisted two weeks later.

yes, i've been on salvagedirect and i agree it's crap. i really wouldn't want to buy stuff like this online, because you never know what else could be wrong with it unless you inspect it. also, all these sites make you pay a crap load of $$$ for memberships just so you can bid on something, plus even more on deposits...even if you don't buy anything! i'm looking for something more local, there has to be a place that has salvage bikes where you can just walk in and buy one, like dealerships. what do insurance companies do with salvage vehicles that they take possession of?? anyone know? that's what i'm trying to track down now, and i spoke with my State Farm agent but haven't heard back yet.

I have the opportunity to possibly buy an 09 1198S for $4500 salvage title. Mechanically, it's fine save for a left clip on. But all the plastics/tank need to be replaced. Ebay has great deals.

I know who owned the bike before, and he took really good care of it. Bike has a lot of goodies....Termignoni's, 30mm offset triples, TTX Ohlins/DK link.

Throwing around the idea of converting it into a hybrid Streetfighter.

Would you think this is a good deal?

depends on what it is. now though i'm open to various things, ideally i would like a 600cc bike, no more than 7-8 years old, with bashed fairings, mirrors, screen, levers, lights, tail, etc...basically don't care about cosmetic damage but still a fully-working bike....somewhere under $3000.

otherwise, if it's not a working bike and the price is even lower i might take it for parts. i'm not as familiar with other brands as i am with ducati, so I would consider buying a beat-up Duc that I can take some parts off of it maybe and sell the rest.

that's a horrible deal, you'd be getting screwed on it....btw, what's the guy's name and email/phone #?

i think you were just rubbing it in my face ...Do let me know if you decide not to buy that.
