WTB 999R 10k. Pipedream?
Looking for an R. I had to sacrifice my 1198 to the mortgage gods. Now I've got some scratch again, I have to fill the Ducati shaped hole in my heart.
However, I would like an R bike. Never had one, always wanted one. But finding one a fella can afford is a bit tricky.
I'm tripping over myself in well equipped appropriate mileage 999S' and will most likely end up with one of those. But I sure would like a 999R.
I've found a few but most are at dealerships and they are too expensive, or have no service history and most often both. The rest seem to be show bikes little to no mileage, or Fila's or what have you from 15K and up.
Multiple owners and mileage doesn't necessarily scare me, just as long as there is a paper trail and the owner(s) are the anal, detail oriented motorcycle owners I am and find most Ducati owners are.
I'm just a poor civil servant with a wife and small child. But the wife is telling me to quit whining and "Buy another damn Ducati". So lets get this show on the road before she changes her mind.
Ideas? roaring laughter telling me I'm an idiot? Thoughts?
Thanks,
Dodd

Cash talks, or good having the bank funds ready to go. Back in April I was able to talk down a Fila 999r with 1200 miles to $14k (from $18.5k). I just waited a day too long (was trying to squeeze a little more out) and someone made an offer and missed out... still kicking myself in the balls for that... anyways just keep searching and you'll find something.

The latest fastbikes magazine tested a 999R, mv F4 & a Aprilia RSV-R factory all under 8000pounds in uk and declared that these are incredible buys now and 999R was the top of the heap. I think $10k in US is easily doable.. keep searching

I don't think $10K is easily doable for a 999R. I have never seen one that cheap and if you do find one that cheap, its either a story behind it or the owner is desparate. Not to say it can't happen, but if you can chip in an extra two grand then it will happen. No way will I ever sell my 999R for $10K, even without the $9K in upgrades I have in it. I priced the bike out of the market when I bought the last titanium Leo Vince Corse system from Leo Vince USA. The 999R is a special bike, even more so now, the above review says it all. I won't be selling mine anytime soon and have no intentions to do so and thats out of character for me.

I think the only R bike you are going to find under $10K is a 748R. You could definitely find a nice 999S for well under 10 and possibly even a 1098S for right around 10.

I've seen a couple 999R's in the 10K range but that happens rarely. I agree that if you can up that to the 12K-13K range you will find one. I still have a hankering for one myself but it is a toss up between an 05 999R or an early model 916 for me and right now I need to decide on an everyday ride first since selling the ST4

999r
I would think it's going to be hard to find one at that price. Not impossible but hard, it will probably be an older bike (03,04) with high miles. Like it was stated in the other posts, due your homework on the bike and ask for maintenance receipts. Check these forums, craigslist and Ebay regularly. I bought my 2006 999R this year in March, on Ebay, my transaction worked out great for me but I wouldn't recommend this for everyone. My bike was in mint condition with a full Termi system and only 2200 miles on it and I was able to get it for under $14,000. I think I got a great deal! I wish you luck in your search because the 999r is a fantastic bike, best bike I've ever owned or ridden!
