These guys had a beautiful 888 in their showroom this summer. As I remember very, very low miles and in perfect condition.

There have been a bunch for sale recently. There is someone here in WI who has one he's selling too, if he still has it. It was up on eBay. I'd check Rare SportBikes For Sale and click on the eBay link. The auction is almost certainly over but it should still have the seller's info on it so you can email him.

Call Jim at Advanced Cycle in San Jose.
He has a nice one.
It's not really for sale but you could ask him, and it's close.

Jims in San Jose and the OP is in LA, not that close. But, Jim knows a lot of Duc owners, he might have some good info. Personally, I don't see a connection between an 851 and the 888, no comparison on any grounds. The 888 has it all over the 851. I think its maybe the dual pipes that gets to me on the 888, I consider it more related to the 916 than anything and equal in appearance. I like both bike's classic decal treatment on the fairings. Great choice the 888, I've always wished I had one myself.

The 92' 851 and the 888 are extremely close in almost every way. The 888 has 2mm larger bore and air bleeds in the TB's, that's the only difference in the engine period! The air box's are different, the 92' has a top crossbrace in the frame. The 92' has a white frame wheras the 888 has a gold/bronze frame. The 888 SPO and LTD have an Ohlins shock/adjustable rocker, 92' 851 has a Showa. That's the only difference in suspension period! They both have the same exhaust, bodywork (different decals), the 92' is biposto, SPO/LTD monoposto. Same curved radiator, etc. How can you say there is no comparison?

I agree I had a 888 and they are very similar, and even though the 1199 is out I too might be in the market for a 851 or 888. Really cool bikes.
