You don't want a US spec 996S. You want either the SPS or 998. It doesnt have the exclusivity, but honestly the 998 is a lot of bike for the money.

I agree. Not afraid of maintenance on the desmoquattro but also like to get home
Would love to have an R but only looking to spend around $10k max.

Then I would seriously look at nine16's 98 916SPS. It's rare (100 brought in that year and I would say not all still exist ) and regarded one the best years of the span of SPS years.

I agree with the pedigree of the 916sps but if I were to buy one of his bikes it would have to be the 996sps as I am a big fan of the oem ohlins but I would also want his mag swing arm. I dig the old corse bits!

The mag swingarms come up now and again and you can fit those on at any time but as for the 00 SPS Ohlin forks I wouldn't worry too much as they are not top notch units.

Oh, I'd take an SPS over a 998 any day of the week. I just meant that for the price ($6k-ish if you're patient), the 998 is a lot if bike if your budget is limited--far better value than a 996S.

$6k? You think so?
Not sure if I will be able to pick one up for that. I really won't consider a bike unless it has exhaust, mono with aluminum subframe, red, service history and some typical mods.
I think $10k is a great budget for a 998Fe or 996SPS.
You are right about being patient, who knows soon I will be able to pick up a 1098S for less than $10k but been there done that.
I wish I just would have finished my 998EVO
