Chain oil mess

I've tried and I can't see any way to oil my chain without making a total mess of my rim and tire. Most modern chain lubes come in an aerosol can so I don't see how. Anybody have any pointers on oiling the chain without getting it all over everything else?

Go to the "Hall of Wisdom" subforum and start scrolling. There are several threads containing hours and hours of helpful reading material about chain care...

Try cutting up a cardboard box to fit in the area behind the chain where you get overspray. The box can be also used to catch any drippings from scrubbing with chain cleaner. Line the box with plastic so you can dispose of the residues properly.

make a box peice like an L so you put the bottom on the L (like a 2" lip thing) under the chain and hold onto the top part of the L while it is in turn guarding all your other stuff.

i use this on all my bikes

and also, i use a chain lube thats more of a wax lube that sticks to the chain and dosent spray in such a mist formation, that helped a bunch

Cut the side out of a 4ltr / 1 gallon container of oil or any other plastic container you have of the same size, when you do, cut from the bottom to just past the point where the sidewall comes in towards the neck of the bottle, continue to cut a square. When you do this the natural shape of the piece has a lip on an angle of about 45 degrees, it's perfect. Best part is you will still be using the same piece in 30 years.

I've been using GoWax for while now. Wipe it on with a rag and there is virtually no throw. Really pleased with it.
