Chain lube
Curious to know which chain lube you use and what you like about it. Also, those you no longer use and why. TIA...

i like the repsol chain lube quite a bit. its not too messy and goes on easy. i probably lube my chain more than others, about every three street rides or so. i spray it when the chain is warm. sometimes i put a bit on, wipe all the old stuff off and spray it again before i park it. make sure to spray from behind or on top of the sprocket, as you want to get the o-rings and rollers lubed. a small can of repsol will last quite a while

Lately I've been using MFR chain lube on the ST4s & wife's ST3s. Its a thin type lube that does not cause a buildup of black gunk or sling said black gunk all over one's back wheel. Important to put on at the end of the ride when chain is warm, let is sit for a few minutes, then wipe of excess so the chain and sprocket stays clean and there's no thin stuff left to be slung off. Been using for about 3000 miles, so remains to be seen whether will result in any undue wear compared to the sticky thick type lube. Check out the website for this stuff @

I don't sell anything remotely related to motorcycles, so this is not a commercial. So far, appears to be keeping things lubed and at the same time, chain, sprocket and rear wheel stay fairly clean. Much cleaner than the thick stuff anyway.

Chain lube? What's that?
No, seriously I've been using Honda brand for years with no complaints. My pervious bike, an '05 Yamaha R1 that I bought new, the chain lasted about 19,000 miles with regular cleaning and lubing.

thanks guys for your replies. thus far i've used maxima and motorex... maxima is okay but i'm not sure how well it penetrates, and it does attract gunk in the winter... motorex went on like seminal fluid.... terrible thing to do to a gold chain..
found out i can get repsol at my local cycle gear store, and i used prolink (mfr) on my bicycles for years - good stuff - honda... not sure where to get that....

Remember these couple of points...Modern day X ring chains are sealed, thus nothing to penetrate into. You don't really need a lube for modern chains. What you need is a wax, and the Maxima is exactly that. It coats and covers the chain keeping the gunk and elements off the surface. Yes, stuff sticks to it, but you're gonna have that no matter what you use and the Maxima is doing its job.
I was a long time Maxima chain wax fan and then I started using Amsoil MPHD. It's almost the exact same stuff (color, consistency, texture, etc) as the Maxima in the gold can, except just a slight bit thinner. At first I didn't like this but the I discovered it works just as well, and it's noticeable easier to clean off come clean up time. So, that's all I use now.

maxima synthetic,on the road bikes, belray (superclean)on my dirt bikes.the metal on metal of the rollers and sprockets needs more than wax if your serious about wear and hp.that and wax seems to be more work to clean off the chain when trying to keep the stuff looking good

I use the BelRay chain lube. I have used chain wax in the past, but it seems to "gunk" up a bit more. Both are good prodcts, IMHO.
