oops, this may be handy

Year: 2001
Model:996
Eng size:996 tuned by biggelaar performance
Pipes:54mm full titanium Silmoto
Seat:race padding
Wheels:magnesium marchesini
Accessories:slipper clutch, all carbon fairing, complete öhlins etc etc
And the story:

it was once red and had a 748 engine.. a replica should be 100% exactly like the original. to bad that a 996RS engine costs a lot of money and maintenance, maybe i can put in a tuned 1098R engine.

Do let us know and please document the steps such as pictures...into fitting your future 1098R engine into your actual frame; It's a nice challenge but so rewarding at the end.
Who knows maybe other will do the same !

I have a friend who has put a 999R engine in a 916 frame.
If anyone is interested; i can ask if he has documented this.

he has won the Ducati club race in Holland with this bike. ( the biggest amateur race in Europe with only Ducati's)
it is a beast! we say here that you have a black line marker.
(when you give throttle you mark the asfalt with black lines)
But it is for sure that you can also put in 1098 engines.

i do think it is better to buy a complete 1098 bike because the engines are around $5500 here.

this is the bike of this year's winner, my friend Carlos. (999R engine in 916)
