2011 Ducati Monster 796 unveiled

Ducati has unveiled a new member of its Monster lineup as an early 2011 model.

The 2011 Ducati Monster 796 will be slotted into the lineup between the 696 and 1100 models, both of which will still be produced. The new Monster is powered by an air-cooled Desmodue 796 engine, which first debuted in the Hypermotard 796 in late 2009.

According to Ducati, the Monster 796 produces 87 hp at 8,250 rpm and has 58 ft-lb. of torque at 6,250 rpm, compared to the Hypermotard 796's 81 hp at 8,000 rpm and 55.7 ft-lb. at 6,250 rpm.

The new Monster 796 will be available in Ducati Red, arctic white silk or diamond black silk, each with the classic red trellis frame. Ducati is also offering a series of customized graphics called “Logomania”, the second part of the Project Monster Art collection. The Monster Art kits offer a number of options based on classic bikes from Ducati’s past. Also available for the Monster 1100 and Monster 696, the kits include tank covers, a mudguard, a micro-bikini fairing and seat cover. See our gallery for some of the Logomania options for the Ducati Monster 796.

The Ducati Monster 796 will be available in June at a price of $9,995. The Logomania Monster Art accessories are available for $599.99, but Ducati North America is offering a free kit with the purchase of a new 2009 or 2010 Monster 1100 or 1100S at participating dealers until June 30.

This is exciting. It kind of makes the 696 not necessary though. I like the idea of the different paint schemes, but they don't all go well with the red frame.
This bike, no matter it's size, really appeals to me. I will own one someday.

Thats a good point really... at $1000 MRSP difference... would you settle for a smaller less powerful engine of 100cc's or so smaller, no single swingarm, etc etc..? Perhaps some regulatory or insurance related considerations in different countries.. but shouldnt that say the 695 should price >$1000 less than this bike? Just my 2 cts...

As I look for a bike now and choose between a 848, 1198S or RSV4, I have to admit I did a double take on this one...I dont even know why cos I never really thought too much on buying the 695 or 1100.... it just triggered flashbacks of the days when I rode a monster... ... the one that suckered me into buying the next 2 Ducati's.....
