changing rotors on the Hyper. tips?

Hello gang,

So i bought some WSBK brembo rotors for my Hyper from a fellow board member, and I will attempt this most basic of mechanical undertakings... changing them out myself.

I thought I had a pretty simple job on my hands, until I started reading about pinched axles/wrong torque values/misaligned forks... the list goes on the more I search... and this is just for removing the wheel!

So, here are my basic questions, let me know if I'm missing any?

-do I need a torque wrench, or can I just hand tighten pinch bolts/rotor bolts etc? If I do need a torque wrench, where can I find values for each bolt that I need to work on.

-should I use antiseize or any other type of goop to prevent Ti bolts from permanently fusing themselves to the wheels?

-is there a specific order that I need to screw/unscrew each bolt. Left side, first, right side first?

-lastly, any other specialized tools outside of a front wheel stand/front pitbull?

thanks, sorry to be so damn needy... just don't want to screw something major up by assuming it's a simple job. I'll post pics when done.

I am also curious as to putting everything back together. I have the forks off right now, have an axle alignment tool, and a torque wrench, now, what am i missing?

WTF are you guys doin' over here? Git' back to the Hyper forum where you belong! Do a search for "front wheel removal", "axle torques", "pinch bolts", etc. All the info you need is there. I would also suggest picking up a workshop manual disc off Ebay, they're cheap. Lots of good info here too.http://www.ctarna.com/Ducati/HyperMotard/

thanks for the info, I think (get a "malware" warning when I go to that link)

Also, was looking at buying my first NM-metric torque wrench... but these things start at $270 (snap-on)!!!... wonder how many wheel changes it would take to amortize the tools/work vs taking it in to the dealer who won't screw it up like I surely will the first few times.

Any particular type of torque wrench suggested? I went to home depot/lowe's but they just have english (non-metric ones) for about $110.

Hmmm, I bookmarked that page a long time ago. It was put together by ducati.ms member CTarna and contains the workshop manual, torques and more.
Maybe try to PM him?

thanks, I will.

I also read some reviews of torque wrenches and tried to familiarize myself with pro's and con's of each type. A good article is here http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/torque-wrench/.

They compare a few types and recommend the precision tools C2: found it through nextag for $125 shippped: http://qualitytoolsforless.com/Produ...ProductID=2274

will probably take the plunge on this first tool... first step towards becoming a little bit of my own mechanic.

If you don't want to buy a torque wrench you can rent one from your local Napa, autozone or advanced auto parts store. I think it is cheap or free. You just have to put down a deposit on it.
