most people think i'm nuts
so dec of 08 i bought my first ducati, a 749D. i love it as i always imagined i would. BUT.....i bought it in dec for $6800, and since then i have spent probably 50% more than that on service. first the $1350 6k service(overpriced yes), then another $965 to fix their screw ups and a staling issue, now it looks that the ecu is dead(7200 miles).....this doesnt include all the goodies i bought for it, termi, tires, levers, chain, etc....
so now is where the nutsier part comes in..... i am in the market to pick up a 1098S, and of course keep the 749. people say im crazy stupid for sticking with ducs, but i figured if anyone would understand, it would be my fellow ducatistas. all my jap bike friends havent sunk a nickel into theirs, with 3x the milage

I don't think your nuts. If you love a twin you love Ducati's. And there is 50% less maintenance cost on 07+ bikes.

A friend of mine got a great deal on a 999S w/12k miles on it about 1 1/2 years ago. He didn't put a nickel into it - well for service - many $ for CF - until the 18k service a couple of months ago. Even that all the valves were in spec. Some of it is just luck I think.

I don't see the problem here. Doesn't money grow on trees where you're from?

+1. If you don't spend it on your Duc you'll just waste it on a groceries, clothes, or a place to live

I got my first Ducati three weeks ago. In Spite of the problems inherent to the 748 model (which I love) I think I'm staying with it. I've got two other jap bikes but for some strange reason they don't make me as happy as the 748!
I don't think you're nuts, I'm now looking at the newer Ducati model range for another Duck!
Regards!

You're nuts if you pay the stealership to do your service. Ducati ownership isn't that expensive if you do it yourself.
