Sticky Throttle

Here's a little background: I just installed some Woodcraft Clip-ons on my 2002 Monster 620 Dark. Everything was quite difficult fitting it up until I modified the headlight brackets with some notches to make clearance for the hydraulic cables. Once that was done everything fit up quite nicely.

When rolling on the throttle it very slowly returns to idle. It doesn't snap back to idle in an instant the way it used to. When manually moving the throttle pulley on the engine, it does snap back to idle. This make me believe that there is something with the handlebar assembly.

Any suggestions are much appreciated?

I would verify the cable path is not pinched anywhere. Then I would open the throttle cover plate and lube the cable and spray lube around the throttle body pivot-points and springs.

I had any issue recently on my 996. I locked the steering head for the first time at a destination and upon leaving found the throttle to be very stiff and wooden. It would return, but barely. The 45 minute ride home was not fun. I lubed everything as stated and happily everything returned to normal.

Make sure the rubber grip isn't binding on the bar end. You may have to loosen the throttle and slide it in to clear.

+1 on that, maybe back out the bar end a few mils.

I also love the Evolutionize billet throttle tubes - really smooths my throttle out. Worth the $100.

Thanks for the input guys. I lubed it all up (insert joke here), checked for pinching, verified that the bar end isnt pinching it, and it's still slow to return to idle. It seems as though the issue is inside the cable housing on the grip side. When the bolts are loostened it snaps back to idle but when they are secured its slow.
