Kickstand Survey
There is a ongoing debate on the kickstands on another thread (all Duc models) and I would like folks opinions.
Question 1 = (yes or no) could the kickstand be designed better?
Question 2 = (yes or no) would you be willing to give up weight savings and appearance for a kickstand that's rock solid?
Comments = what would you change

Back in the 80's I rode an Interceptor 1K with a centerstand that must have added an extra 25 lbs. to the bike. So, if what your getting at is sidestand vs centerstand, I'll take the sidestand and make for sure I park on a solid surface and not bury it in soft ground. If thats what your getting at...

I have owned 8 Ducatis since 1977 and never had a problem with the kick stand.

Being my first, it does make me a little nervous having it mounted to the case. Especially when some knowitall tries to show me how to spin the bike on the stand

You've got a strange bunch of people out there. Around here, you don't lay hands on someone's bike unless he says it's OK. Most folks wouldn't even think of asking. It's just not done.

For those of you who didn't see the thread that started this, it's about the sidestand being mounted to the crankcase and the posibility of it cracking the case with 'abuse', i.e. sitting on it with the stand down or spinning the bike around on it.
I've have a '99 996 for ten years and stand spin it on occasion, carefully of course. Haven't had a problem and never saw it on another bike either. Someone on the other thread mentioned BCM warning them not to do this but I used to hang around in the shop there pretty frequently (going back 5-10 years ) and watched them do it all the time. I'm wondering if this problem is associated more with the newer motors or...
Seems more likely the root of the problem could be when the stand is left down and the bike is ridden, that first left corner will put a lot more strain on the stand/case than anyone sitting on it...

I saw it done years ago at BCM as well. Not often, but occasionally. It used to be pretty tight in the shop there, just an easy way to move the bike. I don't do it on mine unless I have to. I don't know why kickstands are such an issue, it's fine on mine the way it is.

My only sidestand issue is that since I raised my rear ride height, my sidestand is too... SHORT!!!

Yes!
I want a kickstand that is an inch or two longer.
