2 Hypermotard models!!
The AMS party was a terrific success. I especially dug the Ducati models in the little red bikini tops. And the new diggs were pretty cool too!
But more interesting was the conversation with the DNA rep.
With a good bit of prodding, he did confess to at least this. The hypermotard will be produced in two forms. One watered down version priced just below the Multistrada. And a premium version closer to the prototype for an extra 3-4k.
DNA expects the Hypermotard will be the biggest seller to date. Italy is yet to be convinced.

I don't know; a good-looking 'Strada (called Hypermoto) might be just the ticket for a sales spike.

with ktm making a similar bike thats already in stores, its going to steal many potential owners away.and ktm's pedigree probably trumps the ducs uniqueness,if i was thinking of one i'd have a headache

if your referring to the 950 supermoto then I'll take the duc at 100 pounds less!!!(if production model can keep the weight off!)
The biggest problem with most the street moto's is the weight packs on!

What in Ducati's past history would lead you to believe that the Hypermoto will be lightweight? Certainly not the current superbikes, which are some 30# heavier than the Japanese competition.
The Monster, lacking bodywork, is better, but still no flyweight.
The only lightweight Ducatis are the factory racebikes.

That isnŽt ALWAYS the real truth..
When they weighed an -03 R6 the weight was 25lbs higher dry then what Yamaha said.. The 749 was 3lbs lighter then what Ducati said.
But IŽll agree that they need to strip weight if they want to stay competative. The Hypermotard will probably weigh pretty close to the KTM and BMW competitors..

Hyper Weight
amullo,
I wasn't talking about "truth in advertising" concerning weight; I know the competitors lie when they publish their weight figures.
I was suggesting that Ducati has never been serious about weight reduction, unless you count the factory race bikes. If they were serious, the 999 wouldn't be 30# heavier than today's comparable Japanese literbike.
The point is that for us to expect light weight from the Hyper is wishful thinking at best. Like you said, expect the same weight range as the KTM 950 and BMW HP2.

Somebody correct me if I have it all wrong, but any comparisons with the KTM seem to be misguided. When Ducati debuted the HyperM. they specifically stated that it was not a real supermotard bike, but only in the style of one. ( For reference, they were equally honest in stating that the Multistrada was really not for anything other than pavement riding, despite the multiuse implicit in the name).
Seems that folks here really are expecting a Supermotard performance or at least usage motorcycle.
A KTM is really designed for that type of mission. The Duc isn't. Not that that makes the HyperM. any less visually appealing.
