Best engine ever... anyone else like triples?
Lots of cool triples in MC history. Laverdas, Triumphs, Aprilias, Benellis, MV's. Ducati even played with one for a while and Honda is said to be developing a triple for MotoGP competition next year.
IMO, a triple - if done properly - may offer the perfect compromise between what we call the "lowend torque" of a twin and the "peaky horsepower" of a four. A triple also offers a supreme degree of centralization of mass. With all other things equal, a triple offers a much smaller frontal area than a four-cylinder of equal size and compared to a twin, there is potentially a significant weight savings due to the single cam galley.
Anyone else intrigued by triples? Thoughts? Comments? Tastless jokes?

Hey what ever floats your boat, if you like triples your like triples, not that there is anything wrong with that . I think they sound and feel like a cement mixer without the I-four zing or feel of a V-twin but I will want to try one of the new 675s before I write them off forever .

....
Triples are truly awesome. I ride with a lot of ducs on and off track, and I love them, but the weight savings is unreal.

Mike, I'm guessing you'll soon be a Triumph owner then?

I always loved the Laverda triple. The new Triumphs are sweet! But I think my favorite triple was a GP 2 stroke from years gone by. It was a V-Triple, kinda like a Ducati L-Twin but with a parallel twin in place of the rear cylinder.

You forgot the most famous triple death trap ever invented... The Kawasaki 2-stroke trips. If only the frame and fork geometry was designed properly they could have ruled the world.
Trips are a really cool idea and they should be explored more. I was always fond of the BMW K75 too even though it was a horizontal.

Fast Freddie was a force on the NS500 two stroke triple of the early 80's.

Chuck, I don't know, but they are appealing. Have you ridden one yet? What did you think? I'm more into nakeds right now, so if Triumph come out with a variation in the 750-810cc range I could be tempted. 1,000cc's is a lot more than this rider can use so I'll gladly take mid-size power if a smaller, lighter package comes along with it.

How could I forget the "White Lightnings" etc. Superbike planet.com recently explained how Kawaski's "test track" - a former airport runway - had much to do with Kawasaki's long-standing obsession with power and lack of attention to what might happen when turning was required.
