Phil Schilling to Motorcycle Hall of Fame NOW!
All -
Bottom line up front: The window for nominations to the AMA Motorcycle Museum's Hall of Fame closes next Friday, 31 OCT.
It came to my attention today on another board that while Cook Nielsen has been previously inducted, his partner in crime Phil Schilling has not.
For those who don't know, Schilling's Cycle Magazine article in 1972 on the Imola 200 did much to raise the stature of Ducati in the United States. It is not much of a stretch to say that Schilling's article was just as important as Paul Smart's win in the race in creating the modern image of Ducati as a viable performance motorcycle.
He and Neilsen followed up on that by running the California Hot Rod, a 1974 round-case Ducati 750 SS in the fledgling AMA Superbike series, winning at Daytona in 1977. Nielsen was in the saddle, with Schilling turning the wrenches.
Not bad for a couple of college boys from Princeton, eh?
Please, before next Friday 31 October, write to Ms. Tapitha Davis at the Motorcycle Museum, and let her know how strongly you feel about Phil being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Here's Ms. Davis's e-mail address:
tdavis@motorcyclemuseum.org
Thanks!

Update!
All
Here is the latest from Ms. Davis at the Motorcycle Museum, which is running the Hall of Fame nomination and induction process:
"Hi Gary,
Thank you for your letter of recommendation to Mr. Schilling’s induction into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum.
I will update Mr. Schilling induction file with your letter and note that if you have more, please do not hesitate to send it prior to the October 31, 2008 deadline.
Thank you,
Tapitha Davis, Museum Management Assistant
Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum
13515 Yarmouth Dr.
Pickerington, OH 43147
614-856-2222 ext. 1293
FAX 614-856-2221
tdavis@ama-cycle.org

Remember that when writing in support of Phil's induction, it will help the board if you can reference specific examples of Phil's contributions: his writing and articles, his time as editor of Cycle Magazine, or his extensive involvement in racing.
Thanks - remember - we only have one week left to contact the Museum and finalize his nomination!

Only six days left!
Thanks for all the support so far - We are making real headway to getting Phil, a vital part of Ducati's history in the US, into the Hall of Fame!
More photos of Phil, Cook, and the Hot Rod early next week!

Daily Reminder
All -
This is the last work week to support Phil Schilling's induction into the Motorcycle Museum's Hall of Fame. The process closes this coming Friday, 31 October.
To those who have written to Ms. Davis - thanks.
To those who have not yet written, but remember Phil and Cook and the hey-days of Cycle Magazine, please drop Ms. Davis a note about what you remember, and why you think he should be inducted.
Thanks!

Monday Reminder
All -
Thanks for your continued support. Remember we now have less than five days to get our e-mails in to Ms. Davis at the Motorcycle Museum supporting Phil's induction.
As promised, here are some photos of Cook, Phil, and the Hot Rod. The first is one of Cook at speed - I love this photo:
This second one is of Cook and Phil in the pits - this is at a national level race, but thirty years ago, everyone (including the front-runners) got to the races in a Dodge van, not in mega-dollar tractor trailers:
Finally, one of two great gentlemen and their famous bike, at the Barber museum:
Reminder - get your e-mails supporting Phils induction to Ms. Davis at the Motorcycle Museum before close of business this Friday (Oct 31). Thanks for your support!

Tuesday Reminder!
All -
We are down to the last few days for nominations to be received by Ms. Davis at the Motorcycle Museum for Phil Schilling's induction to the Hall of Fame.
Here is a great shot of Phil wrenching on his old Honda CB350 - those bikes could run forever, and Honda sold a zillion of them:
Phil's health hasn't been so good the past few years, and induction to the Hall would be a great pick-me-up for him.
Thanks again for all your support in this endeavor!

Thursday Reminder!
All -
Only one more day to get your nominations in for Phil Schilling's induction to the Motorcycle Museum's Hall of Fame.
Thanks for all your support in this - as some of the other posters noted, if you remember the hey-day of Cycle Magazine, you know what great motorcycle journalism can be. But if you grew up in biking after say 1985, then all you know about motorcycle journalism is Cycle World, Motorcyclist, or RoadRacing World (not a bad pub, actually).
But it used to be soooooo much better. And Phil was one of the guys who made it that much better. Support him now, please.
Thanks again!

Last Day!
Okay folks -
If you have not yet done so, today is your last day to e-mail Ms. Davis at the Motorcycle Museum in support of Phil Schilling's induction to the Hall of Fame.
The reasons for this are all laid out in this thread. It is enough to say that when Phil and Cook were part of Cycle Magazine, reading about bikes was a lot more fun.
Please, if you have not yet done so, send in your e-mails today before close of business Eastern Standard Time and help Phil get the recognition he so richly derserves.
Do this today, and know all weekend that you did a good deed.
Thanks!
