Exclamation Ebay rant

Well, as most of you know, I was selling my bike in ebay 748 w/a 999 motor. Anyway a guy tells me that he would buy it cash and he was to pick it up on Saturday 4-7-07. I end the auction early thinking yeah consider it sold! Today I get a call and he said that he had lost his job, my reaction is WTF I lost other would be potential buyer and ebay fees Just wanted to vent and if any of you is looking for a 748/999 let me know I just want something different

Nothing's perfect. I just got done dealing with some ebay *issues* myself. LOL

~ Contact ebay. You *may* be able to re-list the item without incurring additional sales fees.

~ Add the guy to your "blocked bidder" list. A bit late, but better late than never.

~ Publish the guy's ebay user name here and on every other board you frequent so others can add him to their blocked bidder list.

~ Most of all, don't sweat it. Think of ebay as your retail store or auction house. You now get to re-list your item. that's not all bad because that means it stays on display longer.

The longer you keep something in the public eye, two things happen. First, more potential buyers see it. Second, the longer people stare at it, the more likely they will bid. Which is why people send you catalogs. Get enough people staring at it long enough and before long, somebody buys something. So they guy just gave you a way to attract more eyeballs.

Just be glad it's early int he season when buying is on the upswing and be glad something *really* bad didn't happen. Like some asshole taking a test ride and totaling it. Or stick you with a bogus cashier's check.

Could be worse.

BTW, I've bought/sold dozens of items on ebay totalling more than $20,000 in all.

In the years I've been on ebay I've only blocked one name.

Hint, hint. Hope this helps.

Just a tip for the future, whenever I sell something on ebay and pull the ad, I only do it after getting a deposit via PayPal.

In other news you can't really complain to ebay for help because you sold it off the system and they don't like losing their percentage (This comes from a friends personal try).

A lot of great tips and suggestions but a little late on my part Next time I know better As far as posting his ebay sig, I'll just leave that one alone. Don't wanna kick a man down on his luck as it is Also a great tip from Scott about getting a deposit through paypal first before closing the auction, I'll use this in the near future. MikeM $20,000 plus on ebay That's a lot of dough

Scott, I think that's true on *ebay* but *ebay motors* is a bit different because they charge a flat fee for a listing and the lister gets charged, sale or no... Sell it to anyone you like or don't sell it at all, ebay gets the fee. That's my understanding, anyway, and that's for ebay motors, not regular ebay.

Don't worry. Exact same thing happen to me two weeks ago. Guy was going to buy the bike, on payday he calls and says he has terminal cancer and can't buy the bike. I wish him luck, but I think he is scamming... I will be keeping an eye on his ebay purchases. I got mixed emotions... Dont want to be a jerk about someones hardship but...

mostly good advice here we can all use. i'm not sure about the using the paypal as a deposit thought. i don't think it can be enforced. be careful if you try to keep someone's money (even a partial payment) without shipping something in return. paypal is real quick to reversing those types of payment since they don't condone "deposits." if anything, it would show intent or good faith on the part of the buyer.

yeah thats dumb to end the auction early (not saying your dumb), I almost did the same thing with a vespa scooter i was selling a year ago. Luckily I did not end early. Original buyer balked but I still got a sale from another watcher. Its not a sale till you have the cash in hand.

I bought my ducati off of ebay and paid it out right cash through paypal. so hang in there. Also check out craigs list. i sold a second Vespa within 24hours of the listing.
