Ducat at Daytona
anyone know what happened to Larry Pegram and the 749/849R he raced in the 200? He qualified relatively well, had a good team, and finished poorly. I have seen more comments about his hairdo than what happened to the effort ... perhaps he was focused on the wrong things. I would have thought a 849R with Corse support should have put in a pretty respectable showing ... the results seemed pretty pathetic for a Ducati supporter.

Hey, at least they finished, and did not run out of gas.
It was difficult to tell because the scoring system had him in the pits every other lap, which seemed unlikely after a while. They were the first in the pits though with an apparent mechanical... Very confusing. I'm waiting to hear back from a friend who worked on the pit crew. I still think the 849R will do great on short tracks this year.

My inside sources tell me that it was his rear shock. It lost a seal or something and all the nitrogen escaped. It took them a while to figure it out.

Seriously. Some of us (me) were really looking forward to seeing the 749R in action when it appears on Speed tomorrow. Now all I've got to look forward to is a mechanical problem and a poor showing. I guess you've saved me a blank DVD disk. Please read the rules in the Road Racing Forum before posting race results.

I'm sorry this happened yet again, mbohn. It seems this was a particularly bad weekend for spoilers. Like it was the first race weekend of the year and everybody forgot their protocol, or sumptin!!
In the Good News department, while Larry didn't have a great weekend, he did circulate several laps with the leaders and there's some real good sound footage of the Duc while the cameras follow the leaders around...sounds lovely!
Also, while he WAS running, he was doing the lead groups' times with no problem...bodes well for the future!

That now makes sense watching him pit, with the crew looking at the swing arm. He'd be out on the trrack, then back in the pit, like every other lap. Seemed to me he was just putting in laps, testing.

I was sitting right over the straight near the start finish line. The Ducs sounded awesome, top gear, flat out.

Pegram got the bike from Italy pretty late, and only did one test session before Daytona. Believe me, that's not enough before any race, especially for a long race of 200 miles at Daytona.
They were impressively up to speed in practice, but didn't get very far in the race. Maybe they'll get it together for upcoming races...
