Video Recording Track Days?

I have been video taping various friends at track days using the sportbikecam mounting system which attaches to the gas tank and holds a video camera facing forward. This system works well, videotaping through the front windshield, but exposes the camera to damage in the event of a crash. It also doesn't give very good audio because of the wind noise at speed.

I have seen some camera systems that mount lipstick lenses both up front and behind for two camera angles. Most use the horn button or a seperate button to switch from front to back. This appeals to me because I think that I could run the wiring to the video camera in the back storage area (on an R1) keeping the camera safe. It would also provide some pretty good footage without having to look through a windscreen.

Has anybody used or installed a system like this or similar? Does anybody know of a company that sells the lipstick lenses and switch? My video camera is a Sony digital which uses the small tapes. Am I going to run into issues with that?

Also, what about converting to DVD? Any advice on how to easily convert the camera footage from the digital tapes to DVD using a laptop and DVDRW? Is there special software needed?

Thanks for any help!

You may also want to check with the organization running the track day event - some do not allow video recording as they have had bad experiences with that sort of thing...

I believe that in the NE region, they use that Shadow Video Productions for video recording on track days - I don't know if they allow people to do it on their own.

I'm pretty sure they do allow it as their members are posting videos from last year on the forum.

No problems recording with the track day events that I attend. Anybody else got any product info on camera lenses? Specifically a 2 lens set up with a switch?

Yeah, Nesba lets you. My friend has the set up on his bike and records every session. One of our Control Riders uses a camera also to show us things when we get off the track. Very helpfull.

NESBA allows video recording. Been doing it for years.

Team Pro-motion does not.

Not affiliatated with this guy or product in anyway. Just seems to be a decent setup.
