EK Chains and their Screw Type Master Link

Anyone use an EK chain?? Just window shopping since I was thinking about going with a red chain next time and EK and Regina are the only two I found with red. But then I saw this...EK has a master link with screw type rivets. Guess the photo's kinda speak for themselves how it's installed. You guys ever seen or heard of anyone using this???

I have an '03 ST4s, bought in May of 2005. At the 600 mile service (900 actual miles) I had the dealer install a 42 tooth rear sprocket and EK chain.

I've put only 3000 more miles on it since then, but I haven't experienced any problems.

Yea, I saw those in my catalog. It's a RK chain sold by Ducati. I think I said Regina in my original post but EK and RK are the only ones I have found that make red.

The pitch is the same on size 520, 525, and 530. Same roller diameter too. You can actually use a 525 and 530 chain on 520 sprockets (but shouldn't). Only the width is different.

Just some chain trivia.

It looks to be what the aircraft industry calls a "Hi-Lock".
The nut has an extended collar built into it... as you tighten the screw it "rivets" the collar to the shaft. There is a groove made between the threaded nut and the collar. When the torque is correct the nut/collar snap apart with a very stubborn rivet type fastener left behind.

They are pretty neat! I would think they would work pretty well for a chain -especially for emergency repairs.

But, I've neve used the EK master...

See, that was my thought too!! No more special tools to install a rivet type link, but still has the same strength as a rivet link (so they claim) and you don't have to worry about a clip! Although, I see tons of guys all the time at the track and everywhere running clip types with zero problems at all???
