Saw 1098 in Person - Pictures from Toronto Motorcycle Show
Well I saw it in person tonight.
It's a great looking bike. But it didn't take my breath away.
The best feature on the bike is certainly the single sided swingarm. Beefy and very distinctly Ducati.
Other really nice features were the front brakes and the 2-1-2 exhaust.
The bike definitely does look more Japanese though. It also looks less expensive than past Ducati bikes. From the paint right down to the shiny silver decals it just looks cheaper. The brake and clutch levers, for instance, look quality wise like R1 levers, not the higher-quality levers that can be found on other Ducatis like the Sport 1000.
Also, I don't care what anyone says, the tail is a complete rip-off of the MV-Agusta tail.
Anyway, it's a great bike, but it isn't as expensive or Italian looking as past Ducatis in my humble opinion.
Here are some pictures (sorry they came out so orange) Check out the kid's expression in the second shot!

wow! hehe i was at that show today! took some photos myself of it but there kind of crappy. have to admit the bike didn’t do anything for me in person(personal preference) but there sure were a lot of people around it! which is partly why some of my shots were bad, was concerned about blidning the people with the camera flash who were enjoying the 1098.. hehe
one of the better shots:
have to admit I wanted to sit on it the bike.. hehe
they did have a nice selection of ducati’s in the exhibit including a parts unlimited ducati 999, that was signed by someone, think it was the 100th one manufactured or something.

It's funny, I didn't even notice that kid in the background until I saw the shots on the computer.

that's the 2007 999s team usa edition. only 150 made, only for north america. all the tails are signed.

ahhh.. that explains that.. When i saw it i didn’t dare sit on it, didn’t think they would allow it since it had the signature and im sure that would get easily scuffed up from the general public swinging there legs over it .. but on the way out i saw some people on it.. kind of kicking myself for not jumping on, ah well..
funny enough saw some Suzuki exhibitors sitting on a ducati on my way out. hehe

You know, Ducati should consider using that scheme for their advertising, it looks like a great way to get future riders on their bikes.
I knid of agree with you hawc, the 1098 just did not tell me "bring me home" YET......
I don't know that lump of a swingarm looked like a tumor.
But the front cowl and the lights well, that is a very nice and smooth transition, they certainly got that look right.
