Nothing new really, except that they got it wrong about the 1200cc.

13-11-2006 - Ducati dream bikes become a reality

When dream bikes become road bikes it means Ducati have created another work of art in their long line of masterpieces.

That was the case in July when Ducati unveiled the Desmosedici RR and the same happened with the first photographs of the 1098. Now it is the turn of the new Hypermotard. Last year at EICMA it was just a concept. Now it is a reality for everyone to see.

Tall and narrow like the best motard bikes, the new Ducati has a 1100cc engine that is fitted to the Multistrada Ds. The mirrors can be closed inwards as hand protectors, while braking is perfect thanks to a double 300 disk instead of a single 320. The rear has been slightly modified with different led lights of 2005.

The 1098 is the next Ducati Superbike now that the capacity has been raised to 1200cc. The new red body is very similar to the classic Ducati 916, one of the most beautiful bikes in the world.

The engine is entrapped in the classic Ducati frame and has a base power of 160cv. The bike has a low air opening and a single arm rear suspension. The exhausts are under the saddle and are now oval. The black mirrors perfectly include the direction indicators.

The race replica of the bike used this year by Capirossi and Gibernau (at a price of 55,000 Euro) is virtually the same as the bike presented at Mugello: a tube frame, a 1000cc four cylinder V engine producing almost 200 HP, a pressurised front fork. Contrary to photographs from last year that looked like a common 999, this bike is nothing like
anything ordinary.

More info about yesterdays meeting with the press.

http://news.motorbiker.org/blogs.nsf...2422MWERXB.htm

Then one of two test riders were introduced. This man did most of the test, and said he loved the motorcycle. He felt totally in line with his bike.

Then the 2nd test rider was introduced:

None other than Loris Capirossi. He stated that the motorcycle is incredible, and totally beautiful !

What a shocker? What else is he going to say? That it's so, so looking and doesn't ride that well?

While I have no reason to believe it won't be a great bike (especially considering all of the technological advancements), I think I'll wait for at least somewhat objective testing by the motorcycle press ...
