Track day close to service interval?

So I am 1,600 miles from my 12k valve adjustment (I'm up on all other services). Would it be harmful to do a track day around the 12k mark before doing the valves? Would it be a waste of time to do it early?

It won't hurt it. I did a track day on My SS that had 14,000 miles on the belts and NO valve adjust, well, ever. Just check Your belts for cracks, put some fresh oil in it, slap on some decent tires (they don't have to be the best), and have a good time.

It certainly wouldn't be harmful!

I did my 12k mile service like 400 miles early to do it before a track day, but I was due for belts as well. And it was my first track day so I was a little paranoid abotu the 2 year/12k mile belt change interval.

I personally feel like 1600 is a little early, but if it gives you piece of mind it certainly won't hurt.

If you decide not to do the 12k mile service early, and your still on the same oil from the 6k service, I would suggests an oil change and filter. The reality is with a good synthetic oil, it would probably be fine anyway, but a track day is going to put more heat and stress on the engine then a normal street ride. So if it were me and I had 4400 ish miles on the oil, I would change it prior to the track day.

Have fun at your track day, Ride Safe!

I am really anal when it comes to maintenance. The bike will have EVERY wear item replaced, and 100% new fluids and tires. I just don't want the valves holding me back, because I know my bike might be out of commission for a while.

Thanks!

I understand where you are coming from. I am sort of from the same school, sticking to the schedule and worrying about making sure your baby is good to go. You will get plenty of advice, but, in the end you are making the choice. Do what you feel is right and will assuage your fears.

You will be lucky to put on 200 miles at a track day. Run it and get your service done when you get back. If everything has been maintained properly, you will be fine.

I understand that the bike wont explode at 12,000 miles if i dont pull over and check the valves. I know how hard track days can be on machines, and generally i am really easy on my bike. I think I will take it slow putting on miles up until the track day, and continue to be up on ALL other maintenance.

Do the service. If the bike is a 1999 chances are that the timing belts need to be changed (every 2 years, every one year if doing all track days/club racing). The valves will not move much but if a belt lets go you are screwed. Also, this gives the tech a chance to catch something that may keep you from riding at your track day.

Yeah as I explained before all maintenance is up to date. The first thing i did was change the belts. EVERYTHING will be replaced. Spark plugs, fuel filter, etc.

As far as checking it over, about 2000 miles ago I brought it the mechanic that performed the 6k service. It was for a "safety" check as I had just gotten the bike.

It sounds to me like I will be fine.
