In the US, anybody can bring a suit because loser doesn't pay like in Canada. People in the US settle suits because it's cheaper to settle than pay lawyer's fees to defend. In Canada, you had better be sure you have either deep pockets or a very good chance to win because if you lose, you pay all costs.
In Ontario, the PLPD is pretty cheap compared to the health and loss of wage insurance that is mandatory for motorcylists, and which now pays half of what it once did, for the same price. Insurance is a government legalised rip off: a real shame, and it contributed to the demise of motorcycle sales because the industry promotes hard to insure street legal race bikes as opposed to medium powered universal type bikes anymore. Sure, young dudes want to buy them, but they can't insure them. Now, in Ontario, the police have direct access to the insurance records to see if the person pulled over is insured, because so many young men would buy RR bikes, and get them insured just to get plates, then cancel the ridiculously high, unaffordable insurance and ride uninsured. I heard the industry is trending to "sane" products, but I don't see it. It still centres on bang for buck HP and even the once "proud" BMW has succumed to the insanity of the suqid culture.

Most paramedics I know would never buy a bike. Im fact I had a Girlfriend who was a paramedic, came home one day and said, "its me or the bike" I chose the bike. Im guessing she saw something out there that scared her quite a bit.

Was a happy day when i finally purchased my 2008 1098s from the dealer, however from that moment on its been an absolute nightmare.
Now you may be asking yourself what exactly that nightmare was. INSURANCE my god getting this bike insured here in canada (New Brunswick) was unbelievablly difficult.. 9/10 companies have ALL ducati's blacklisted and the ones that dont want $5000 a YEAR!!!
Thats not even the worst part, when i picked the bike up, i originally signed on with statefarm, rates weren't amazing but not awful either $220/mo full coverage 1 mil liability $1000 deductable for the car, a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS and $45/month full coverage $1 mil liability $1000 deductable on the 08 1098s totaling $265/month sigh alot but manageable, now a couple days after picking the bike up, i get a phonecall from statefarm with some awful news.. i had a minor speeding ticket (15kmh over) that i had completely forgotten about on my record. Well let me tell you statefarm does NOT like tickets on your record because HOLY CRAP did my rates ever increase.... to the tune of a new monthly payment of $398/mo!!! thats a friggin CAR PAYMENT just for insurance.
So i guess at this point i should provide a little background information about myself. I'm a 26 year old Paramedic for Ambulance New Brunswick making around 60k/yr i have had no accidents at fault or not on my record, not so much as a parking ticket.. the only thing was the single minor speeding ticket. Had my MC license for 5 years and been carrying MC insurance for 5 years as well
Anyway as you can imagine i spent the next week on the phone trying to find someone to insure this friggin bike, and as most require your car to be signed with them i guess i was looking for a deal on my car insurance as well. Was reccomended to a company from a neighboring city (pretty sure its just a broker) and made another shot in the dark phone call. Happily about 4 hours later she phoned me back with some great news:
Car - 1319/yr with $500 deducatable 1million liability, loss of use or $109/mo
Bike 993/yr with $500 deducatable 1million liability or 82.75/mo
Honestly this is leaps and bounds better than every other company i had called (something silly like 30 or so companies i called) compared to statefarm which wanted $398 getting it down to $192 a difference of $206/m puts a smile on my face.
Now i just need to paitently wait for the snow to melt so i can finally ride the damn thing and stop making engine rev noises in my sleep
Well thats my story, thanks for reading

Try talking to where you got your ticket from. Ask what can be done to reduce or eliminate it from your record. Could mean a letter to write, a course to take, a road to clean. There are ways to cleaning your record, just not always cheap in the short run but very much so in the long run. Contact a lawyer as well who may specialize in this.... Just throwing it out there.
