Ducati SC1000 on The Bike Shed

For those of you who think the Sport Classic 1000 is an interesting Duc, get the lowdown on what us retro-weirdos over in the Sport Classic forum section are drooling over - or building for ourselves - down in The Bike Shed

Why did Ducati stop building these bikes?

I've said this many times but I'll say it once more...I was hot to buy a biposto until I added up the cost of fixing the suspension, adding tubeless wheels, and a few other things. I also do not want a plastic, shifting tank. I bought an '05 SS1000DS instead at less than 1/2 the cost. Much better.

I love performance bikes. I like racing, fairings, technology, aggressive geo, and having the right tool for the job.

That said, If I had a 1000 that looks like any of those, I would be happy for the rest of my life. I dream of these bikes.

Back in 06/07/08 - yes... But now? ....my local Duc dealers reckon they could sell one SC1000 a week - if they could get any...

Throw in the Cafe Racer TV, Bike EXIF, Wrench Monkees, Pipeburn, Deus, retro cafe factor, - along with Guzzi, Enfield, Triumph and Norton making a business out of retro bikes, and it's easy to see that NOW would be the time for Ducati to produce a "performance retro..." Stick an 1100 DS engine in one with the Paul Smart spec Ohlins for £10k and they'd sell out in a month.

And for what it's worth my 131bhp Superduke R is not much faster round Brands Hatch than my 80bhp Sport Classic, in the intermediate group. Difference is, I can also relax on the SC1000. The SDR is for tense angry riding only...

+1 Thanks for putting our thoughts into words LD!

What say you @Ducati ?

Love the Spirit GT1000 concept! Can't wait to see the build.

Cheers,

Tmnstr

Spoke to a Ducati dealer last weekend who said everybody want a SC at the moment but agrees when they were available they were hard to sell.
