carbon on intake valves
In the process of doing my valve adjustment I noticed my intakes valves were covered with carbon. Reading similar posts on the forum sounds common which seemed strange. That being said, what is an acceptable amount of crud on your valves before you pull the heads for a cleaning.

Just go to Pep Boys, buy a bottle of Redline's Complete Fuel System Cleaner, and dump the whole bottle in along with 3 gallons of gas. That will clean up the valves and the injectors.
Seafoam works well too.

I had a similar problem. I read in the warranty here in the States that fuel additives are not to be used.
Go figure.

On the intake valves? Yeah, the joy of shower injectors. Not all carbon but alot of the crap "they" are putting in the fuel. The injectors fire even when the intakes are closed. So, a good fuel cleaner helps out. Ben Fox rec. the BG fuel cleaner, run i about once a month or so....

I am a firm beliver in Techron.
I am not a beliver in the mechanic in a can until this stuff. Originally I just ran it in bikes when the carbs where gummed up from storage. Saved me from several carb jobs just to clean them out.
The convincer for me, I had a refresh done on a 853 kitted bike with 30k miles. My mech wanted to know what i was running, he had never seen piston tops and valve stems so clean. I thought he was just pulling my chain until he showed me another motor, pistons and valves for comparison.
