To Rossi or not to Rossi
Hi. I'm looking to replace my 749s. Had ordered a Panigale but the insurance is £2.3k. Now looking at a 848 Evo but am not sold on the looks. I was thinking of having it sprayed Rossi Rep colours but the dealer thinks its not a good idea to go too custom and I'll have problems trading it in or selling it. Can I get some opinions from you guys please? The bike is 2011 for £9.7k and the paint job would be £1.5k

i would get the panigale and skip the insurance but if not have a look for a pre loved 848 or 1198 with a rossi paint job, i saw one in oz the other day really cheap.

Not
Hiya buddy,
I have to agree with the dealer
Much as its great to look in the car park at the repsol reps, rossi reps and the like, I wouldn't buy one
I reckon it would reduce your options to sell quite dramatically by reducing the customer base to a few people that would want that sort of thing
You will also find no one is likely to pay much extra for the paint job
£1500 buys a nice load of custom parts that would surely enhance the bike
The dealer would have some idea of what make the bike more desirable
You could also look at what others have done to that particular model
There are likely to be plenty of parts for sale
Exhaust, wheels, brakes?
In the end it's your decision buddy
Be nice to see what you do with it though
Regards

I have a solution for ya!
Pick up new bike of your liking, (848 will do ya fine) remove all plastic and safely pack it in storage.
Order Chinese replica plastic form eBay and enjoy, when I got my NSR body they offered any custom paint for extra $50 or so, I went with stock colors, $450 sipped to my door, form 20 feet away no one will know the plastic is not OEM.
When you tired of Rossi paint you can go back to original fairind and sell the China junk.
Also when you sell the bike with OEM plastic it will be Brand New!

Is insurance for the 848 Evo really that much cheaper?
In regards to the Rossi paint job, no!

Thanks for the responses some really good things to think about. Did consider biting the bullet on insurance but I read people where skipping 1st gen Panigale because of all the probable/possible issues with all the new tech. That plus insurance makes me think cheaper 848 Evo to get more no claims and let the kinks get ironed out.
The bike is for so me so ultimately it's got to be what I like but I've never seen a Rossi Rep in the flesh and not seen many 848/1x98s. They started growing on me in the shop. I don't think they photograph well. I think from reading these replies the standard 848 Evo is the way to go and put some pennies in the bank for a 2nd Gen Panigale

Amazingly I can get insured for £650 on 848 Evo compared to £2.3k on Panogale!

I'm guessing that the Panigale is so expensive to insure because the insurance bods don't actually have an idea of the repair costs on such a new bike. I know people with D16RRs who don't pay anywhere near that much. Give it a few months & the quotes will be much lower.
Don't do a Rossi rep, they look yeuch.
