Bologna factory tour........ Tips?

Well, on the go ahead from my better half, I have booked a factory visit on the 11th April. Flights and hotel sponsored by KLM air miles and Marriott rewards !
So, 5 days in Bologna.... Anyone got any good places to go eat, drink, nightlife ?...... Any tips? ..then I return home for 4 days and me, my Multi head off to Assen with some mates for WSB's. :-))

Hi Northumbrian,

I see you like our small country (going to Assen) and 'our' airliner KLM. ;-)

I would be interested in the information as well. (Planning to go to Bologna in May)

Take care when you go to Assen: Police control are getting stronger each year.

Martin

I went last year and spent 3 days in Bologna. This is our second time to Italy and we really love the town of Bologna.

We flew into Milan and took a bus to Bologna. We stayed at a nice little mom n pop hotel called Hotel Porta San Mamolo. Rooms were nice and big and the price was fair. Right down the street was a great restaurant called Al SanGiovese.

We don't normally do tours but if you or your wife is a foodie I'd highly recommend a tour called Italian food days. I have more info if you're interested but I can tell you that it's one of the best things we've done in Italy.

As far as the Ducati tour, very cool. You can buy merchandise about a block away in a Ducati store. Not much else to say other than a cool place to visit.

We made a pilgrimage in 2007 and stayed in the University District at Hotel University. Fairly central to most of Bologna, but we walked, a lot. It was clean, good food and rather quiet, except for some night time activity. After all, it is near university. I think my wife found this place at the last minute on kayak.com. It was certainly a taxi to the Museum, as we relied on public transport during our holiday.

Would love to go back, and would stay in Central Storico next time, but have no regrets to Hotel University.

A regular visitor to the factory on business once told me that the food in the staff canteen was quite ordinary. But the food is good just about anywhere else in town.

You will actually struggle to find a bad restaurant in Bologna. Italy is renowned for it's food and Bologna is one of the best cities for dining, especially pasta dishes.

On the cultural side checkout the 3 T's of Bologna while you're there; Torri, Tortellini & Tette...
