Insurance Rates -- lets share and save 2gether
I'm starting this threat in hopes of helping out my fellow riders. I spend 2hrs on the phone yesterday (1/20/2012) looking for insurance. I am a mature driver w/only 1 speeding ticket. I live in a city center--higher ins rates. I called 2brokers, they gave me around 8 quotes. I finally called AAA, and they gave me the best rate, about 1/2 price. The other companies, for a 20,000/40,000 Full coverage, 2k annual riding , on a 2010 MultiS...the least I was quoted was $1100/yr. AAA gave it to me for $520, can you say Happy Camper... When I asked the girl why the quote was so low and to go back and double check the specifics, she replied that since AAA is non-profit, thier rates are really low, and most motorcycle riders ask the same thing as I did. Not to mention, that for around $100/yr they tow you for up to 100miles, bring you gas, etc...
When I asked for a quote on my car, she replied in that case the coverage for you car would extend to your bike as well; for example on my car I have 100,000/50,000/300,000 coverage and if I add my bike then my bike will have the same 100/50/300, which would make it very expensive. Lesson for the day, have your bike/car ins seperate...?
I'm not an ins guru, so if I've made mistakes/errors don't hold me accountable. Good luck.
Heck of a deal IMO, but to each his own. I'm not in anyway affiliated w/AAA, just spreading the news and hopefully I'll save you a few $.

I use AAA as well. For my 2 (old) bikes, $500 deductible, full coverage, about $500 each.
Out of curiosity, anyone ever heard of any vintage bike type of motorcycle insurance? They have it for "collector cars." I have an older car that dropped from $1600 to $300 with AAA when I switched from regular insurance coverage to their collector car policy.

A carrier that is less expensive for one person is not necessarily less expensive for another. Many, many factors contribute to rating a policy. Not only that, but different companies apply different inportance (weighting) in their rating alogorithms to those factors. You can identify one company that works for you, and your neighbor with the same bike might find several companies charging less.
I do have a question for the original poster - I assume the 20,000/40,000 is your split liability limits? In other words, $20,000 per person. not to exceed $40,000 per accident. If so, I would suggest you may be significantly underinsured. You may be putting whatever assets you have at risk.

Here's what I'm getting for my $450/year per my agent. Does anyone carry a Medical with their bike insurance? Seems unnecessary since most folks have a dedicated medical already.
Liability - Bodily Injury 100/300 and Property Damage 100 limits:
If you are at-fault in an accident and get sued.......we will defend you in court, and pay up to $100,000 if "one" person sues you. We will pay up to $300,000 if two or more people sue you. The last number mans that we will pay up to $100,000 to repair or replace property damage of others or whatever you damage in an accident, another motorcycle, car, etc.
Un/Underinsured Motorist - 100/300
You are hurt in an accident and the person that hurt you does not have insurance (or has insurance but with low limits,'under insured'), you can come back to Country and collect up to $100,000.
Medical Payments - 1,000
If you are hurt will operating your motorcycle, we will pay up to $1,000 for any medical treatment you receive for yourself.
Collision - $500 deductible
If your motorcycle is damaged from hitting something, you pay the first $500 and we will pay the balance to repair or replace the motorcycle.
Comprehensive - $500 deductible
Fire, theft, wind, vandalism, hit a deer, etc, you pay the first $500 and we will pay the balance to repair or replace the motorcycle

Foremost rates were crazy low for me. 120/year for same coverage. Nobody could even come close.

I pay $600 a year full coverage with $500 deductibles on my 748 and Hyper through State Farm. I live in Vegas, but have everything titled and licensed in my home state of Oregon. That's a good deal I think. Have my cages with them too.

wtf. I called AAA awhile back and was quoted $1,500.00 for full coverage. That is with a $1,000 deductible, and no medical. Wasn't sure about the amount it covered but still. This was for a 2004 998 Matrix. Given I'm only 24, but zero at fault accidents, and zero tickets. Had my m1 for 6 years. And I have 2 other vehicles through AAA too.
Funny side note, if you say you'll only do 1,000 miles a year, its actually more then if you were to say 2,000/year. It caps at 4,000 miles/year.
