Ducati to abandon V-twin platform?
Is there any truth to he vicious rumor that Ducati has been considering an inline 4 for upcoming superbike models? Obviously the upcoming 1199 is a V-2 so if true this would not be in the very near future.

^ Source?
A V-4 maybe, but an in-line Dukasaki? Unlikely IMO.

They would lose much of the hold they have on the motorcycle market. And considering how much they grew last year it would pretty much be suicide. In addition, they won WSBK, they have a VERY loyal customer base, it would make absolutely no business sense.

especially since they just reworked the Superbike's engine anyway. If they were thinking of going away from the twin, they would have spent that money of the 'rumoured' replacement.

Years ago, I remember a "Yamaha rumor" going around, that the new 1700 cc air-cooled, push rod V-twin, was actually a HD design put together by HD engineers and rejected by the HD product developers because it was too good, so...Yamaha V-twins are actually HD twins, only better because those indignant engineers quit HD and sold their better a/c V-twin design to Yammie. That rumor actually gained some traction. Sad but true story.
