best time to sell 749R
Ok, thinking of selling the 749R. When selling a rare collectable, does it matter when you sell?

The best time is when you're really pissed at it.
( no way I'd sell that bike! )

They are nice bikes, but I wouldn't call it a rare collectable at this point. I can find one for sale nearly any day of the week (though the 2004s are harder to find). Pretty much all in perfect condition as well - and for very reasonable prices. I'd keep it if I were you, especially if you bought it new as you will be taking a large loss.

+1... as a 2006 749R owner, I won't sell it... but, I DEFINITELY don't expect it to sell as a "rare collectible"... I can't think of many bikes or Ducatis which command a "collectible" premium... maybe a 998R? ride her!

you are better off keeping it, its not worth selling at this point. the "public value" is lost with the xx9s.

Haha my thoughts exactly.
I love the xx9 series. By far the most original and the best looking of the Ducati superbikes. I hope to own a S or an R one of these days.
Seriously, unless you need the money, I wouldn't sell an R of any incarnation. You won't get anything close to what you paid new and guarantee you will regret it.

i would argue the 2004 749 r is the most collectable of the xx9 series.doesn't matter the time when it goes up for sale, that bike has a very specfic and motivated buying pool.

I think that is the year when the bodywork was actually carbon similar to the 999R???
Other model years after it was plastic and not carbon.
I think that is correct.
In 2004 the 749R was THE most advanced superbike to date. Even considered by some including journalist/experts to be superior to the 999R.
