Whos directions to follow for belt tensioning?
The ducati hyper manual says 140hz measured between the vertical fixed pulley and layshaft then the horizontal mobile pulley and layshaft.
The directions from ducatitoolrentals.com say 110hz measured between fixed pulleys and cam gears.
Right now I have the 140hz set but when measuring the other spot as the directions suggest I am only seeing 97-99 hz.

CaCycleWorks has a nice tutorial on YouTube regarding this subject. You can peruse thru the video until you get to what you need......it's 3 parts. Here's part 3..

I had watched the 2 part video, I just tightened them to the manual spec first only to see they were too loose for what most said. They are now at 109 and 112hz measured between the fixed and cam pulleys.

Just a minor addendum. The 110hz spec is true for most models, but some of the 'R' bikes - 999R. 749R to my knowledge - are adjusted to a different spec (75/85hz) because their belts are considerably wider. There may be other bikes out there with a different spec as well, but it is good to bring this up when belt specs are being discussed.
My shop has indicated that they set most belts to a 105hz level, since they have seen belts tighten up over time. Alternatively, I have heard of belts loosening greatly in less than a year, so I'm nut sure how to deal with this conflicting information. Personally, I follow that shop's (ECS in Middletown, NY) recommendations, but check from time to time.

This is new to me. Never heard about wider timing belts for the R engines. I checked the spare part manuals for the 996R, 998, 998R and 999R (2005) and they all share the same part number except for the 996R which uses an older version.
Never heard about the 75/85 Hz setting for road engines either. The workshop manuals I have (incl. 999R) all say 110 Hz.
Are you sure you're not referring to the timing belt settings for the RS and factory engines?

The 748R has a diferent frequency for the belts. But like said, it has wider belts, 2mm, i think.
The testastretta all the belts are the same width.

New Belts get 100-110 hz
Re tensioned belts get 90-100hz
I honestly do 100 for new belts, and 95 for re tensioned belts.
Older high mileage bikes (748, 916 etc.) I go 85-90 hz due to some shearing the idler pulley bolts off in the cylinders if they are run too tight.
70hz is the minimum they can be at.
Always Err on the loose side. Also this is cold temperature. When the bike has been running and the belts are hot, the tension is about double.
