Frame Powdercoating...
What do you do with the VIN decal if you strip one down to the frame to take to the powdercoater??

They can mask it off. Otherwise screw the sticker the frame is stamped anyway.

The paintters should have techniques (sprays, etc.) that will allow them to safely remove the VIN sticker to re-apply it aafter the frame is re-painted. If they don't, consider looking for another painter - this kind of issue is pretty standard in the auto-painting industry.

Have them mask off the stamped VIN on the head tube, stamping is pretty shallow and I had to grind off the powder to have it exposed after my frame was PC'd.
If they can remove the masking tape after the color goes on but before they clear the frame it will be the best option.

When my 749 frame was powder coated, i had the same concern. The powder coater said not to worry, as it is a lite enough coat to still have serial numbers exposed. They were right.

Be sure they mask or cover the pars where the stearing bearing sits and all locations where there's thread for bolts etc.

Is that powder or paint? Would you happen to know the paint manufacturer and color code, or is it just PPG "Ducati racing grey". Thinking about getting my frame redone when I change the bodywork over to yellow.

it was custom mix, he matched it to the original subframe (i have a spare) 3 layers of powder: grey base, "sparkle" and then clear. If I was to do this again I would make sure that he uses less powder.
They were pretty good about plugging the holes and covering every surface where bearings or bolts go in, just had to point them out
