Monster M900S ie ~vs~ 1995 916
Here is the deal:
I currently have a 2001 R6 that I loved so much I turned it into a track bike. Now I need something new for the street and have been thinking about either an M900 with fuel injection (S model would be nice so I can have adjustable forks) or a 95 916. I have considered 748's too but am still unsure about them. The 916 and M900 can both be found for under $5k which is why I like them both. As far as having a ducati for street use, I know they can be uncomfortable and what not but I would take it to the track too so that is why the 916 is still an option. So guys, let me know what you think. Any other suggestions would be great too but keep price in mind. I am a DIY guy too if that helps anyone with suggestions. Thanks lads!

The Monster is hands down the best for the street in terms of comfort and maintenance affordability.
BUT
I could see myself suffering on a 916 a little...
The 916 is a very focused bike, not fun if you're in traffic.
The monster is a jack of all trades, has plenty of testicular fortitude, and is comfy to boot.
But the 916 is prettier, and goes faster, but isn't really comfy on the street.

I should probably add on that I am looking for something with some balls. I rode a 2001 monster 600 that a buddy had and it was great because of the torque but it just had no overall power or anything. I hope an M900 would have some get up and go...

If you want something with "balls" maybe a M1000ie would be a better idea. Or a SuperSport 1000. The DS motor came stock with balls.

Hmmm....never thought about that one. The power numbers aren't much different. Is it a real difference in the seat though?
What about the 916 guys? Any opinions? 748?

Never ridden a Monster myself, but I can say that even my lil 748 has some bite to her I'm never disappointed when I take her out

I have a 99 M900 (carby)...as it is my first Ducati, I love it but realize it's age, and will prolly never get rid of her. I had a 97 748s and really wish I still had it sometimes. But then I realize if I'm being honest, I only miss the beauty of her. She was fast enough and everything but I am a Hooligan bike guy. Now I own the perfect bike for me, an 07 S2R1000. Noise poise shows and goes. (I stole that from some motorcycle review of the 900 back in the day when I bought her)

Well then, I won't be helping you either as I have both those bikes (albeit my M900 is a carby not i.e.).
I like both for different reasons but if I could have just one it would have to be the 916 but that's because I've always had sportsbikes and also that I've had it for so long (13 yrs) that it's become part of me...
Best of luck whichever you get.
