Overseas Ducati owner needs your help .... *Registration*

Hi guys,

Long story short I imported an 1198s from the states and the bike is currently getting vin'ned in my country and the guy thats doing it asked me whether the bike has been registered previously while it was still in states.

If so I would need a copy that shows that this bike has been registered else he asked for a pre-delivery inspection report from the Ducati dealer that sold it.

The bike had only done 246miles in it and I bought it from Kawasaki Dealer.

I have the TITLE which shows the original owner of this bike but unfortunately its not good enough.

I have purchased a full report from AutoCheck and on the Full History section says :

10/15/2010 - Huntington, NY - 3mile - Motor Vehicle Dept - TITLE
03/29/2011 - Huntington, NY - Motor Vehicle Dept - Registration event / renewal.

Does that mean the bike has been previously registered while it was still in the States ?

I'm terribly sorry if some of my questions sound pretty stupid but I need your guys help at the moment.

Thanks

Ronny T

I would say yes. Titled in 2010 and registered ( buying plates) in 2011. However, I am no expert.

You might contact the state of NY dept. of motor vehicles. They should be able to answer your questions.

NYS DMV - How to Send a Question, a Complaint, a Compliment, or a Comment

Good luck,

Yes, a title IS a document from the state which is given UPON registration.

All bikes come with a certificate of origin when the factory sends them to the dealer. That certificate of origin is what is used to show ownership BEFORE the bike is registered. Once you give the certificate to the DMV, along with necessary fees and taxes, they register your bike and create a TITLE for it.

Not to nitpick, but you can title a bike without registering it. In Michigan anyway the title shows ownership, the registration shows it's got a current plate.

By coincidence this afternoon I registered a bike I've had titled for years.
