848 Testastretta 11
Do you think we will see this engine on anything other than a Streetfighter?

With Terblanche long gone I wonder if they have anyone who could render a classic. Maybe the 851-Classic would end up with a beak.

I just don't see the point in putting a smaller motor in anything other than to make it fit into a displacement limited class for racing.
How many times have you seen people on these forums post questions on how to make the smaller engined version faster?
Duh!

Do you think the 848 is for some < 850 racing class no one has heard of? It is a completely arbitrary size.
An 848 multistrada would get better fuel economy, have a longer range, and have the same power as the 1200 for urban and Enduro. I'd rather have the horsepower of the 1200, but if it were $5,000 cheaper...

I'm not sure but yes, I think the 748/749 was intended for racing in specific classes primarily in Europe. Here in the US now the 848 competes with the 600cc I4's.

I could understand if someone just can't afford the bigger motor, but I think in most cases the primary reason for the smaller motor versions being a lot cheaper is because they cheapen the rest of the bike, like suspension and electronics. I would doubt it cost Ducati $5000 less to basically put smaller pistons and a shorter stroke crank in the same motor, which is what they usually do.
