Track day/racing school recommendation
Looking to take my riding skills to the next level. Any recommendations for track riding schools? I have around 20 years riding experience but have never been on the track. I live in new York city, would like something relatively close (2 hours).
Thanks
Mike

Excellent decision. In addition to improving my riding, going to the track several years ago has resulted, for me, in the most incredible motorcycling experiences. Nothing like riding a high performance machine in it element. Wish I could offer track recommendations up your way ...I am familiar with tracks and schools in the SE. For what it is worth, even though they cost more, I am glad the first time out I picked a school that included classroon instruction as well as on track instruction, versus just a track day.

Track Days....
Go to YouTube and look for the video Ducati Multistrada Track Day. Very cool and very impressive.
I would love to take mine to a track day but I'm hesitant to take a 20 grand bike and risk throwing it down. Plus I have a bad back (why I bought her in the first place) and am afraid if I did throw it down I would be crippled,so I enjoy riding at a pace that I am comfortable with.

California Superbike school @ NJMP (thunderbolt raceway) is your best option. Keith Codes program is by far the best for beginners. It will teach you from the ground up all the basics of track riding in a method which isn't just efficient, but very rewarding and fun. I know a considerable amount of people who have taken his school and all of them have told me time and time again its worth while. I also know a few of Keith's rider coaches personally and they're really great guys.
If you are willing to drive a bit further, there is a great school @ New Hampshire speedway called the Penguin school. They teach with older supersport Ducati's and have a great program set up for trackday beginners all the way up through racers. You won't have to bring your bike, which means you can make it a weekend get-away and just make the roughly 6hr trek north sometime.
Riding on the track is fun, its addicting and its expensive. Make sure you have good medial insurance, a really decent set of leathers/gear. I highly suggest renting a bike from the school, as you won't need to prep your bike AND the teachers at both schools know how their bikes perform, so they will be able to teach you better in the long run.

I'll second Tye's recommendation regard California Superbike school. I've done 4 days with Keith and his crew and highly recommend going there.

+1
Very well developed curriculum that will guaranteed transform your riding. Read Twist of the Wrist II and Twist of the Wrist I before attending. Or read them to determine whether you're down with his methodology.

I ride with team pro-motion. They have a ton of track days and their coaches are great.
