Question:Why is the Multistrada raced instead of the Hyper?

In an event like Pikes peak why is the Multi raced instead of the Hyper? Seems to me the Hyper is more than capable of the task or am I missing something?

I'm not sure if this is the answer, but the first thing that comes to mind is the motor.

The hyper used the air cooled 100hp motor... while the Mutli comes with the water-cooled 155hp sbk-ish motor.

The Hyper has been raced plenty at the Peak, and it even won its class a few years back. Still, the MS is a lot faster - even with the extra weight and reduced maneuverability it owned all at the last race. I believe it not only won but also set a class record. That engine is a beast...

What he said. In summary, two letters, HP.

If the course was populated with more tight sections it would be a closer call, but there are more than a few stretches where the bike can really be gassed, and this is where the MTS12 can really put those extra ponies to work.

Multistrada racing...

I'm sure it's due to the motor, and what a motor it is. Torquey, flexible, and what a power hit at 6 grand! But I think the reason the multi won at Pikes Peak is that there were WAY more Multistradas at pikes peak than any other bike brand in the 1200 class. I know,I was there along with a BUNCH of other Multi riders.

Now I'm super glad that the Multi did well because everyone loves a winner and we all like having a bike that won a race, but why couldn't it have been a race like the Isle of Mann TT? That would be COOL wouldn't it? Maybe we should petition the good folks at Ducati to set up a team to race the TT next year? Just a thought.

Yeah, plus they could use "Enduro Mode" on the dirt sections and adjust their preload according to terrain on the fly. And call home with the bluetooth. They do have built in bluetooth on those bikes, don't they?

I just went up on Friday and there's about 1/4 mile left unpaved with them still working now. My guess is that it'll be fully paved by next year's race.
