Rise and Shine Lets start this day on a good note. In 2 weeks MH will be out on one of his morning rides about right now. He will make sure he wakes up as many people as he can while leaving the parking lot. Hopefully I will be joining him for his morning rides. Regardless of all this little high school drama we had in here yesterday, we are going to all have a blast during ECM.

You know, almost all of us have lost friends on motorcycles, it is bad enough that it occurs, but we don't like losing a friend. Most us us know the value of gear, and we also know the penalties for not wearing gear, I personally, would rather not make a frient at all than make a friend that in my who doesn't opinion, is putting themselves at risk to becomming an organ doner.
I'll ride with any one of these guys, but out of choice, I will stay away from you. I'm sorry, I'm not looking for someone else to mourn.
I choose my riding partners carefully, and, really, it is 50% their skill level, and 50% their attitude.
I hope to meet you at the Full Moon sometime, maybe something will change my mind.

If we haven't had a bad accident ourselves, we have a close friend who has. Tennessee tried out the no helmet law thing about 8 years ago or so I believe. Around that time I still wore a helmet, and I thank God that I did. I had a woman pull out in front of me and stop dead in the center of the road once she realized what she had done. I had nowhere to go but to hit her. I flipped onto her hood and my head went into her windshield. If I had not been wearing a helmet I would've been in a world of hurt, but I walked away with only bruising and a totalled bike. I have had close friends die, as have a lot of guys on here. Many of them were not wearing the proper gear when it happened. I have a buddy that was supposed to be selling a one-piece suit for me but decided to try it out himself and had a bad accident. Did he ruin my suit? Yes, but he came away with only a broken bone or two so I didn't care if my suit was ruined. He did pay me for it anyways, but that was the least of my concerns. I had a close friend decide it was too warm to wear any gear one day just to run over to one of our friends houses. He had shorts and a t-shirt on and went around a curve a little too fast and also hit an oil spot from a wreck in that same spot earlier that day. He lost control and slid into a guardrail. The guardrail split his abdomen open all the way across his stomach about 5 inches deep. His organs were spread around the scene to give you an idea of how bad it was. Am I saying gear would've kept him from getting hurt? No, but it sure as hell would've kept him alive. Just think about the concequences next time you go out without any gear. All it takes is one idiot not paying attention and you stand no chance on a motorcycle against even the smallest cars.

*Just re-read my post and it sounds a bit preachy, but if it helps to convince one more person to wear a lid, so be it, I'm not changing it.*
Among the people who fight against helmet laws my home state of RI and neighboring CT are known as "freedom states" also NH, VT and ME, so you can imagine that almost no one here wears a helmet around here with Mass being the only state that requires lids, I didn't wear one either. It was through a subtle ridicule of my friends who cared and knew better that I gave in and finally started wearing the lid several years after I started riding, now many years later I feel naked without it. I survived many crashes and other than 3 highsides (2 on the track) I never banged my head, and I crashed plenty! It was an innocent crash in VT couple years ago that would have changed my face forever if I didn't wear the helmet. Not sure what happened, falling in my head wiped out some memory of the event, all I know is that I ended up highsiding my loaded KTM and face-planted at relatively low speed (comparing to what I normally travel) Helmet did it's job and I escaped with slightly rung bell and fractured/torn shoulder but I still have my good looks thanks to my 3 day old at the time Arai XD3.
this is the first helmet I "rashed" keep it as a reminder to never say never because prior to that I was telling everyone that in 8 years of riding and crashing I never banged my head on the ground, that was till his happened when I went cartwheeling at 80 mph, T-4 at Loudon, September 25th 1999.

Considering that riding a bike is one of the most vulnerable acts I can think of, chosing not to wear a lid just to prove some silly ass point of having "freedom of choice", is about the lamest argument I can think of.
You play the odds each time you ride and wearing "just in case" gear will have you thanking yourself when shit happens. I cringe when I see the summer riders of all ages in shorts, floppies and fake lids.
I'd rather destroy a helmet, jacket, pant or boots rather than suffer the consequences of abrasions, broken bones or contusions. I reallize you can't convince 100% of the people out there, but I would hope I can change some minds.
The question those who use the freedom defense should ask themselves is, would you rather walk away from an incident or be carted away, because when the shit hits the fan, you are a piece of meat getting tossed, rolled, hit or sliding.

Well I guess everybody's all butt-hurt now
I'm hoping all the rain is getting over with this week, so in 2 weeks we will have great weather Looks like I'm going to be bootless for the week since I can't find any that I really like. I sold my Sidi Vertigo's to a buddy so I could get something to match my bike better, but not having any luck. I guess I'll wear jeans and some leather shoes

I highly recommend you take a look at these. I tried them on and they fit like a glove. I love em just waiting to have more funds in my shallow pockets.

Due to crappy Rain forecasted on Saturday, I'm taking tomorrow off to install 3 shiny new Pit Bull Trailer restraints int he trailer with my Dad. Then headed out to DucPond to retrive my SS friday afternoon/night and check out the Panigale release party!
I'll spend a rainy saturday in the garage detailing my SS for the trip (Ducpond fixed a small oil leak for me so I have a dirty engine to clean up!)
Is it May yet?
OH, and also, a open invite to anyone in MD/DC/NOVA area, PM for info on caravaning down that Wednesday morning! I already have a couple guys dropping off duffle bags so they can ride sans luggage. We got SUV/trailer space for gear & Beer if anyone is local to DC area (bike slots are full, and a pending photo proof for Wonway once we get 4 bikes in a 12x7 V-Nose )
