999R Good find? or pass?
Hi Folks ...need your opinion, input, etc. I have the chance to buy a 2003
999R with 5500 miles on it. I've seen it, ridden it, immaculate and think its the bomb. I've always loved the 999 design.
My doubts are around the viability of these beauties. From what I've read, Ducati has stopped making parts for these. Is that right? If they were cheap, taking a few grand as a gamble and enjoying while it lasts would be well worth it. But they still command over 11K on the blue book. What say the seasoned Ducatisti on this site?
Jump on it or pass?

Is that a real question, or do you just need a little push? Buy it, ride it, love it. All bikes will have replacement part issues sooner or later, that bike is no different.

I might not be a seasoned vet, but if a 999R came along with that mileage and was the right price, I'd pick it up. Replacement parts will be almost always be around, they're just harder to find.

I have a 03 and a 05 & 06 and love them, depending on how you ride you may not worry too much about spares, I'm rebuilding a 94 916 Varese and have no issues finding parts.

Do it!!!
If it's priced tight and you like it - get it! Ride the hell out of it. I've got 26K on mine and the only thing I've had to replace is a couple relays (std NAPA parts) and normal maintenance. Don't worry!!!

I think it won't be too big of a deal. The folks with the tapered collet retention system are the ones who are gonna have a problem in the future if Ducati dumps that design, so thats a negative for the 05/06 999R.
But I still think the assets of the 05/06 are greater then that of the 03, but then who am I to judge, haven't owned either! LOL
