is this true about ducati parts?
hi, read this from another forum:
"What a lot of people do not know and was surprised to find out when I was at the Ducati factory is that Ducati out sources virtually every part of the bike except for the engine cases or the heads cannot remember which, everything from the tanks plastics exhaust wheels even the famous trellis frames are made by Verllichi.
The good thing about this is that a lot of the maintenance parts are also used by other manufactures, the belts can be had at half the price that Ducati charges , fuel filters are the same one's BMW($20 versus the $60 ducati charges) uses the oil coolers are made by KTM. the throttle tubes are identical to a Yamaha r1 but cost $15 not $80 that Ducati charges, replacements are easy to get if you know what you are looking for
oil filters , K&N and fram both make them, etc etc etc, you can pay $500 to have the belts done on a liquid cooled via a dealer or you can buy a pair for $135 and spend an hour doing it yourself.Working on ducati's is easy get a workshop manual , and do not believe the the BS from dealers. All the tools down to the diagnostic software can be had with a little work."
what do y'all think?

Absolutely nearly right. Except buy the belts from a dealership as the specs change from time to time, and you want to make damn sure you've got the right ones for your bike.
The only problem comes to resale time, when your prospective buyer wants to see all those nice little stamps in the service book, becauses they've heard that Ducatis need specialist servicing & that a full dealership service history is essential.

Not an issue if you never plan on selling your bike.

I just got belts from my local Ducati dealership and they were $32 apiece. I took them home and spent 30 minutes replacing them.
I think some dealerships around the country jack the prices. A Ducati dealership in Denver wanted to charge the previous owner of my bike about $250 for a fuel pressure regulator. With labor they quoted more than $400.
I ordered one here in Albuquerque at PJ's Ducati and it was $150 (and I did the work myself).

Yeah I take pics of all the work I do on my cars, so people can see how anal I am I about my work.
I have yet to service my own Ducati yet...but I am sure I will be doing the same thing . It really does help with selling

I don't think any of the major manufacturers make the majority of their parts in house. It would require huge facilities, tons of new machines, and a whole new staff of engineers workers for each division. It wouldn't be very efficient and would likely double (or more) the cost of our bikes.
I don't know if Ducati and Yamaha throttle tubes are "identical." However, I can confirm from experience that certain model year R1 and R6 tubes will fit our machines.
And if your dealer is charging $500 to do the belts, find a new dealer.

Not identical, the Yamaha tube fits better with less slop.
