I added the wrong FUEL!!!

Ok at least it wasnt diesel. I pumped 2 gallons in before i realized that I was pumping in 87 octane and stopped the pump right then.

I rode it home and to work this morning without incedent. Should I add octane boost or just ride it out. I thought about diluting it with 91 but it would still be less than 89 on average so I figured I would ride out the 87 so that it is at least mostly gone. Didnt notice any pinging.

What would you guys do.

Oh BTW it is in and S2R1000 about 1200 miles on the engine

Exactly what you are doing. I'd probably refrain from grabbing a handful of throttle on an uphill run, but other than that I wouldn't sweat it.

You are ok...you are probably better than ok

I have been running 89 for most of the summer and since my low fuel light doesn't work I run 87 when I need a 'top off' out of my garage lawn tractor supply.

Search these forums...There are several threads on octane that will explain it all.

As long as you don't ping you are better off with lower octane. It will burn better and more completely.

Alot of Monster riders say that their bikes run better w/ 87 than w/ 92.

I have had to put the occassional tank of 87 octane into my ST4 and ST4s when I was out in the boonies and nothing else was available. I filled up with the good stuff as soon as possible. This did not seem to hurt the bike.

Don't worry about it! These bikes aren't that particular about the octane.

After reading tons of posts about other peoples experiences, I stopped using 91 over a year ago and switched to 89. Absolutely NO problems and NO pinging. Then, about a month ago, I started using only 87. Again, NO problems.

The only problem with running on 87 is that I can actually feel my ST4s is more responsive and quicker off the mark, which is a problem when you run 15/43 sprockets like I do! I have to pay attention if I don't want to wheelie off every traffic light.

You didn't add the wrong fuel, you added the CORRECT fuel. 87 octane is all you need. My ST4 runs best on 87 octane; best fuel mileage and best throttle response.

Don't waste your money on higher octane fuel - you don't need it. High octane is not the good stuff, it's the expensive stuff.

But... if you think it's better to run higher octane, then run it. If your bike seems to run better with higher octane fuel, use it. It's just that my bike runs perfectly on 87, and it gets the best mileage on 87.

I have to agree that 87 is better. Ran a couple of tanks of 92 and milage went way down about 35mpg. When I went back to 87 the milage went back up to between 50 and 55 mpg. Stick with the 87.

I haven't run anything BUT 87. Coming up on 6000 miles and no problems.
