No I don't get paid as such - it is just for fun and sharing, but some get published.

My mate is owner/editor of Rapid Bikes Magazine here in Oz and my partner (Gabrielle) and I usually get media passes and do some interviews etc. for them. I.e. we get great access which is worth heaps to us.

He also gives me bike related gadgets to test long term (aka keep). E.g. I have done reviews on Cardo Scala Solo, Cardo Scala G4 and Strike Genius GPS.

We did WSBK last Feb and were guests of Pirelli and had access absolutely everywhere and did a few articles for Rapid. The highlight was meeting Troy Bayliss, plus pics with him and getting my Duc hat signed. We did a 3 page story on Vermuelen and crew, Pirelli control tyres and one to be written on our meeting with Paolo Flamini.

I have swags of great shots from earlier WSBK and GP of all sorts of makes and riders. Many from the fans' side of the fence which is where good more personal pics can be taken if you can see through the fans.

This is one of my favourites and hence my screen saver taken at the exit from Siberia at PI

Marco Melandri

This is one of Randy Mamola a few years ago again just after Siberia.

It is a Nikon D40 and I have a 80-200 ED lens that i bought many years ago for a film Nikon. It won't autofocus with the D40 body, so I have to focus where I want to take the pic, then pan and use continuous shooting mode.

Truth is for every good pic, there is a heap of bad ones!

The real "trick" is panning from a reasonable distance so it is not jerky.

Where are you, as you signature does not show your location?

I'm in Los Angeles ... originally from Northern California, but i moved here years ago for the work.

I've worked with a lot of friends from Oz and New Zealand.. love it out there.
Almost made it to Phillip Island last year, but my Holiday ended right before... I did get to see the V-8's on the Gold Coast though... was more fun than i thought it was gonna be...

question for you.... in your sig... the pic that reads "next 105km".... where was that one taken?... that might be the record.. the biggest one i've ridden past is 74 miles... i'm not sure of the m/km ratio though...

Highway 1.. California Coast... Monterey. Close to Laguna Seca...

110 km is about 68 miles. Before this twisty sign there is about 40 kM of sweeping bends as a warm up.

The road is the Bonang Highway and used by the handful of locals that live in tiny townships, logging trucks and us of course.

It runs from Bombala, New South Wales south to Orbost Victoria via Delegate and Bonang. Enter Bombala in Google maps then follow it down. It is the most amazing fun with very good bitumen and very little traffic. It is a bit hairy coming around a corner to see a big logging truck using more of the road than it should. But these are uncommon if you ride at the right time of day.

We have amazing twisty roads through those ranges, so lots of ways to get from where I live in NSW to PI. 10 of us rode on the GP trip, so great fun, no accidents and hopefully no tickets - time will tell.

Dunno why, but PI race organisers don't allow a lap of honour and riders head in to the pits at the start of turn 4 (Honda).

It is a shame as in WSBK the riders pull monos for the fans around the track. The other good thing about WSBK is that you can ride your bike around the outside of the track to watch races from different corners.

PI is a highly recommended track as the viewing and track is superb. If anyone wants info about going, just send a PM. We have met a few Americans who have come over for the racing. You can stay on and do a track day as well, but early booking is essential.

Hi Punch,

Great photos, & exactly what I hoped to acheive, but didn't with any consistency.

If you have an association with Rapid Bike Magazine, we have a mutual friend in Alex the big red headed South African of whom you would also know of.

PM me

Craig
