Four Thirds help
Hey Guys,
I've always shot with good gear, but just felt I should sell my Canon setup (5D, 85/1.2 and 35/1.4) because I've found the only time I use the camera now is on the bike, and it was a huge weight to bear, and very slow (off the bike, into the bag, lens on, etc.).
That said, I still want to take good pics and want a similar, non-DSLR setup, i.e. smaller! I've been looking at the Olympus E-P1. I don't understand the Four Thirds system. Do ALL lenses for FT fit ALL bodies for FT?
For example, they make a nice 14/1.7 and Sigma makes a great 50/1.5 with 8 blades (best bokeh for portraits, which in my case is the bike LOL).
Can I bolt a Sigma 50/1.4 onto an Olympus E-P1? Or some kind of adaptor maybe? The Sigma, while no Canon 85/1.2Lii, gets great reviews.
The Olypmus equiv. is a 7 blade design, terrible for OOF areas. Poopy portraits if you want shallow DoF.
It would mimic my previous system (no 24" prints obviously lol) and fit into my two coat pockets (no need to get off the bike and pull my backpack off..and with live view even leave the helmet on), leaving my backpack for necessary things like underwear and Happy Meals

Oh I know
Been shooting with this setup for almost 5 years, have had many high end setups in the past. This was the best, for sure. The 85/1.2L is IMHO the best lens ever made, period, by anyone (and I've owned all the best Canon, Nikon and Zeiss glass). But between it and the awesome 5D, it was like carrying a midget in my backpack.
Been studying a bit. Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds are not the same. Someone on a photo board, recommended a Sony NEX5 or something, will look into it

The 4/3rds systems are interesting, but they are very expensive for what they are IMHO. I think you'd miss your current kit and you may find the 4/3rds system, after you start adding various lenses and adapters, isn’t all that much smaller than the 5D and a few primes. With a decent lens, it would be sized close to a Rebel. I think you may be happier looking at something like a G10 or G11. Really good IQ in decent light, and I think it would meet your needs (portability, shoot from the bike helmet on) much better than one of the 4/3rds systems, and they’re inexpensive enough to justify keeping your 5D kit.
I used to carry a 1 series and 24-70 in my tail bag. Kind of overkill and a lot to lug around. I picked up a used 40D and will soon add a few non-L primes to make a smaller kit to pack on the bike. I’ve considered a G10 many times, but I don’t mind sticking an SLR in the tail bag. I use a Domke F6 stuffed in a Cortech bag. Secure, compact and fairly easy to get to.

Keep your present set up and get a small point & shoot to keep in the pocket of your riding jacket.
