I guess they probably live in the trees out in the swampy area close to us.

If there is a swamp near you, keep your eyes (and telephoto lens) peeled for the ivory-billed woodpecker. Some believe it is not really extinct.

I shot this one just as the sun was dropping behind the fence in our back yard.

The Cardinals are so trusting. They will let me take pictures from about 20 ft away with no problem. As apposed to the Blue Jays. I don't think I'll ever earn their trust.

The jays don't want trust, they want compensation. Fortunately, they will work for chicken feed.

One of my nemesis birds was looking for food and water along Willow Creek at the fish hatchery the afternoon of Friday the Thirteenth. Although it was in plain view for a kinglet, it teased me by refusing to display its ruby crown.

Friday morning (1/20/17) I got a few shots of backyard birds while filling my seed feeders.

1) Juvie(?) female Anna's hummer hiding in a rhododendron bush.

2-3) A sharp-shinned hawk perched briefly in my neighbor's tree, then took off.

4) Black-capped chickadee.

5) Chestnut-backed chickadee. Some of you may have never seen one as they have a very limited range in West. The chestnut color will become brighter in the spring.

All very nice but I love the hummingbird. I rarely see them perched in such a nice setting. Excellent!
