Along with the Drop Bears, just another of the vicious/deadly critters indigenous to the Land Down Under.

Photos #1-3: The elusive marsh wren. They are difficult to photograph as they remain down under the cattails and only come up for a minute or two. This one remained on the cattail for several minutes yelling at me.

Photo #4: Rhinoceros auklet in mating plumage.

Since the eagles evicted them from the nearby marsh, the herons have become the guardians of the marina.

I spent some time one day last week taking photos of kingfishers flying in and out of their burrow with fish for their hatchlings. The burrow is about 30 ft. up a bluff on the other side of the railroad tracks.

It is best photographed from the beach at low tide. Sitting on the rock embankment below the railroad tracks can get a bit scary when a train passes by.

Here is the female entering and leaving the burrow.

Another series of shots of the female. The birds help me set up for the shot as they warn me of their arrival by chattering very loudly on their approach path, then continue chattering as they perch on a nearby tree before entering the burrow.

Two adult bald eagles were watching me take these photos while they were perched on a tree at the top of the bluff.
