Need to buy a nice camera

Hi Guys,

I know some of you are right into photography....my poverty pac Cannon 5 megawhatsie camera I have had for...well a while has just given up. I would like a good point and shoot camera say up to $1000 AUD ( so about $33.75 US )...nah it's not that bad eh.

I want a camera that will take nice pics when I take the effort to think about what I am filming...

What say the forum.................?

If you want a good point and shoot, you can't do better than the Canon G10.
It is a little larger than most, But it takes great pics.

There was some discussion recently here:
Finally bought a point and shoot camera

I second the Canon G10. (And that comes from a "Leica Guy".)

Here's a good source of info regarding the G series.

I'm a nikon guy on the slr level. In my opinion the nikon point and shoots are so-so. The cannon's are nice. The g10 as others have mentioned is among the top point and shoots ever made to date. There are a few others that some could argue are about the same. But, if you are into using manual controls the g10 has about the best layout you could ask for in a 'small' camera. It is a bit of brick... But, in good light it can take some outstanding photos. All smaller cameras suffer in lower lighting conditions compared to a 'real camera'.

In the us the cameras are about $500.00. Through your research you will find that every camera has it's own strong and week points. The macro mode on the g10 is outstanding. I find that shooting big vista type landscapes is only so-so. Shooting portraits of one or two people within 10 feet, not bad...

I have some really good DSLR equipment I am trying to sell right now. We would have to work out shipping, but that is no big deal. We could arrange it through PapPal or something to ensure legitimacy.

Canon 10D, a couple awesome lenses, accessories...an altogether setup for under your asking price. With memory.

PM me if interested.

For the same money as the G10 you can get a D60 with an additional telefoto lens. I've had TOO many point and shoots. Not worth the money in the long run. Grow up and get a Digital SLR. The D60 is not overly complicated to use nor is it loaded with features that you will never use. Or if you want smaller, get a D40 with VR lenses.
