More rodents

Nutria (aka coypu) are large rodents native to South America. They were imported into the US for commercial purposes and have become a pest due to the damage their burrows inflict on dikes and levees of irrigation and flood control systems.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coypu

Nutria are present at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge north of Vancouver, WA. A few years ago I photographed an albino nutria there, but I did not see one when I took these photos on 11-23-16. An albino's odds of survival against local predators such as coyotes are not good.

I didn't get a good shot of the teeth in those photos, but it makes them look like large, blood sucking vampire rats.

The Since There's No Birds Around Thread

We had some pretty severe thunderstorms come through this morning. And then the sun came out. And not long after the squirrels.

Like the first one Mike, the second...what a raggedy-ass looking tail.

And while I was out in the woods stalking critters I came across a wild squirrel. Looks totally different from the domesticated neighborhood ones. It was acting pretty aggressive so I kept my distance just to be safe.

One of the many possums that inhabit the palm trees on the riverfront, regularly fed by locals
