From by eyes I think they lost some sharpness in the web conversion...
Someone posted this on the Canon forum recently which is pretty inspiring (could be the problem is that you are using a Nikon LMAO)

Did you get any of the eclipse Saturday morning? Here are shots I took Friday night of the full moon rising behind me while I was photographing the sun setting in front of me. Taken with my 7D/100-400L zoom.
Rainman: Next time try using the blue tone setting in the monochrome (b&w) mode. It really brings out the brightness of a full moon, much more so than shooting in color.

I am such a dumbass, I uploaded the low res versions.
I have now edited that to the better res.
Bill-
I will try that.
I have only had the l;ens for three days and still getting the hang of it.
Now I can PLAN on the full moon.

This is my favorite.
Wanna go there?
Think the 1200 would get us there?

Excellent. I like that one too.
Something that most people underestimate when shooting the moon is how fast it's moving. It takes a surprisingly fast shutter speed to capture it.
At iso 100 and f11 I'll guess you were shooting about 1/200 ( the sunny 16 rule). That's actually marginal for preventing slight blur.
