The new X10 was delivered last night just before I had to go out for a job. THe battery had enough juice for me to play with it right away. Goofed around with a bit at work, and again today. Pretty happy with it. If you keep in mind the target market for this little guy (G12, P7100), the image quality is excellent. The colors are very natural and the film simulation modes are pretty good. I’ve been using the Velvia setting. Punchy. Much better than the G12 I had for a bit. Compared to a DLSR with good glass, the IQ is only very good. Handling? Big enough to put in your hands and actually use, small enough to fit in a car console, cup holder or jacket pocket. View finder is very usable, manual zoom ring freaking rocks! This thing is very well built, solid with smooth controls. The EXR modes go way beyond typical P&S or consumer DSLR gimmick features. They actually work and with excellent results. I really like the dynamic range priority mode. Very good macro ability.
Silky pic software can go in the trash heap... Needs third party RAW support, fast! What makes it livable is the .jpg images pretty much need nothing right out of the camera. I think this is going to fill my daily use needs very well.
A few random shots of nothing in general...
A macro of a valve I installed last night. ISO 400, f/2
Same settings, a touch of NR in post.
Quick grab out of my car window, ISO 800 in EXR "noise reduction" mode. It was full dark out, just those building lights.
F/4 ISO 100 EXR "dynamic range" mode.
Standard aperture priority mode. ISO 800, f/2.8 max zoom completely untouched, right out of the camera.
ISO 100 f/4. While definitely not a substitute for my 1D3, in high speed (it will do 10FPS) and continuous focus mode, it doesn’t suck!
